What is the advantage or purpose of uniforms/fashion?Why have we gone towards minimalism? Everyone wears the same thing now deliberately. Has it got anything to do with the decline in religion?
>>18499639It is because the decline in soul lol.
>>18499639what? you complain about everyone wearing the same thing, when that's literally the definition of a uniform.wouldn't most of the uniforms in your pic also classify as minimalist? they're literally just a monocolor robe.
>>18499647The difference is that there are dozens of uniforms. Not everyone is a friar.
>>18499639>uniformsTo show that an individual belongs to an organised and coherent group/institution>fashionHumans evolved to lose much of their body hair and thus rose the necessity to wear clothing in certain conditions. And as humans liked to decorate things fashion was born.>Why have we gone towards minimalism?A mixture of the Great Male Renunciation at the end of the 18th century and the desire/necessity to mass produce clothing on a scale not seen before.>Everyone wears the same thing now deliberately. And everybody (within the respective socioeconomic classes) in 16th century France would have also worn similar clothing.
>>18499670>And everybody (within the respective socioeconomic classes) in 16th century France would have also worn similar clothing.Similar but not the same. There were still different styles. Now everyone wears suits with ties.
>>18499676No.
>>18499690>posts a painting full of color and different stylesyes thanks for proving my point
>>18499695>ColorLook up what the Great Male Renunciation was and how it influence carries on.>different stylesAre you blind? There are maybe 3 different styles of clothing for the men and 2 different styles of clothing for the women in this pic.
>>18499708>There are maybe 3 different styles of clothing for the menAs opposed to today's 1 style.
>>18499721There are more styles of clothing today than one.
>>18499735everyone wears t shirts and pants of various lengths. That or suits which are the same thing just that theres a tie.
>>18499670>Great Male Renunciation at the end of the 18th century????
>>18499639A little OT, but I think that every single unempployed person should be conscripted into a religious order and forced to work, pray and do charity. If they refuse they end up in the military, penal battalions to be more precise.
>>18499750As opposed to the shirts, breeches and doublets of various lengths? And dress shirts and suit trousers and jackets are of a different cut than a T-Shirt, Jeans or Yogapants.>>18499767How original.

>>18499670>>18499965That's a term, not an explanation. Yes, it says something about egalitarianism and association of garish clothing with the ancien regime, but that's long ago now and the rich and not-so-rich still display their wealth in other ways (yachts, houses, cars). But a modern rich man would rather spend his money on a suit that looks almost like a normal suit and a watch of which convincing facsimiles can be bought in third world tourist traps, even if it could buy a baroque dress that Louis XIV would be jealous of. Why is that?
>>18499965Early modernity "fashion" was a crime, absolutely tasteless. Although the suit has also worn out its welcome (literary) and dont even get me started on "smart casual" bs that was never welcome in the first place. The next revolutionary movement really needs to attack the Anglo suit and introduce something new again. I propose going back to late medieval/renaissance fashion, I wanna dress like Maximilian I or Charles V. In fact, just let Germans dictate fashion, they were always the most dripped out people in the world.
>>18500272Because nowadays all matter of clothing can be produced relatively cheaply so to demonstrate their wealth the rich nowadays invest in other items (real estate, art, cars, etc.). And while a bespoke suit with a bespoke watch might be superficially imitated the richfag knows what he has and if he is good, he will be able to spot imitations and fakes. Also a "sleek" design is still the preferred option many desire regardless of their socioeconomic class. Lastly counterculte - in the last quarter of the 20th century strong colors were still en vouge, during the 2000s the colors became more muted and subdued and since a few years there is a black & white trend.
>>18500282> I propose going back to late medieval/renaissance fashion, I wanna dress like Maximilian I or Charles V. Funny. Some german nationalist thought the same during the Napoleonic Occupation and developed the "Old German Costume" which drew inspiration from 16th and 17th fashion. They were motivated by the increasing influence of french and english fashion and the rising german nationalism, which needed symbols in order to bring the people together. Thus this costume was born but it never gained traction. On one hand the majority of the population had no relation to the centuries old fashion on the other hand those costumes were forbidden in the wake of the Karlsbad Decrees, which had the aim to prosecute the liberal & nationalist crowd.
>>18500393Large velvet berets, wide collars and and overall wide cut were the most common features of this Old German Costume.
>>18500404>German is my mind and my garment, of the finest fabric... from england.
>>18500282Who are you kidding anon. The west is over, and its cultural and genetic degeneration will be accompanied by fashion slopification. For the future of fashion in the west, imagine a mystery meat mutt wearing low quality jeans and t-shirts forever. And I don't believe that china will do much new either. The most china has produced in fashion so far is a revival of historic chinese clothing, as if that was in any way a model for the future. I expect them to do more rehashes (admittedly well executed) of western fashion for the next century, but nothing truly new.
>>18499639>Why have we gone towards minimalism?Market forces. This happened to everything that is mass produced (cars, phones, ...) not just clothes. The best way to mass sell something is to make it minimalist and bland and stick a logo on top of it.
Historically, most people lived isolated, rural lives and had to be self-reliant, so the women would sow their own clothing, and pass their skills onto their daughters, hence you would see a wide variety of variation amongst the peasantry, they had nothing to do with "urban" fashion which contrary to what is being said in this thread, wasn't about being unique but copying what was universally seen as stylish or prestigious. When industrialization uprooted the rural population, the urban tailoring industry rapidly expanded, and over a few decades the traditional sewing skills were lost.
>>18501657Then how come women still wear lots of different styles?
>>18501934Are you talking about regular women walking on the streets or going to work? Because from what I can tell they really don't.
>>18499639its just easy to copy and make cheap fakes in the industrial age
