Bronze age Mediterranean myth was full of stories about hospitality toward a god or strangers who turned out to be a god, and the punishment of hosts who fail to give proper hospitality. The purity of god's angels must be upheld to properly fulfill Lot's responsibility of hospitality, and the story is intended to take the model of poor hosts being punished and apply it to the whole city except Lot's family, so his decision to offer to substitute his own daughters to be defiled in the place of god's messengers is intended to be an act of extreme piety and commitment to his obligations to his god. His commitment to yahweh is of greater importance than to his children. This is hardly the only time this comes up, anon. It's called an abrahamic religion. It is tempting to compare it with the hindu idea showing deference to a deity by defiling oneself. Like smearing yourself with cow shit.
