Were the Amazons mentioned by the Greeks real? Or just a myth or extrapolation from sporadic cases? I have my doubts when we have myths of Alexander copulating with one of them or Hercules going to their kingdom. What does historical consensus have to tell us?

The Amazons were a literary parody. A reverse bizarro opoosite of Greeks.
>>

Really?
>>
>>18502186
now I'm imagining Greeks with only left breast
>>

Well, most Greek "accounts" of the Amazons are also accompanied by giant ant-like creatures from Central Asia... can you believe it?

However, Herodotus was right about many things. He said that the Scythians used human skin for leather, and guess what? Archaeology has found evidence of human skin in Scythian tombs, linking them to the Greeks and Armenians.

>human skin
>tombs

no shit

The gold collecting ants turned out to be true. The gryphons were just dino bones in the desert. Amazons were a literary parody turned real when Greeks actually established communications with the nomads around where the Scythians were and discovered that women wielded bows and behaved in a more masculine manner; you can see this in Greek pottery and art as there seems to be two different depictions of Amazons with their fictional type and real type.

>The gold collecting ants turned out to be true. The gryphons were just dino bones in the desert.
No. The Myrmekes Indikoi, as described by Herodotus were the size of a fox or a dog, and there is no evidence to support this.
>turned real
It didn't "turned" reality. There is no evidence of a matriarchy among the Scythians, and all contemporary sources, such as the Persians, mention nothing similar to what Herodotus mentioned. And archaeology has not found anything similar. What is your evidence? highly stylistic representations of pots? The Scythian and other warrior groups had a custom when a great person died they would kill a female slave or wife and bury her next to him, majority of skeletons don't survive so you would occasionally find female remains in a warrior grave

They can't, you retard. All these representations are fictitious.

I also found our friend's argument bizarre. I mean, the myths of the oldest Amazons, as well as their representations, are all linked to the "Scythians" (a general Greek term for Pontic Iranians) or Sarmatians. The women of the steppes were no more masculine than those from other places.

How many more times is Herodotus going to need to be proven right until you retarded deniers go back t𐐬 reddit?

let's take a look at the archaeological evidence
>The 2,600-year-old remains of a young Scythian warrior are now known to be female.
Yes. I bet mistakes in assessments are more common than the scythians sending 13 years old girls into battle, maybe you are the real "retarded denier" here?! The Scythian and other warrior groups such as vikings had a custom when a great person died they would kill a female slave

There is variance in preservation and there is also the question of whatever everything in a burial site was found
On vikings;

So, if you still desperately want your pornography addiction to be justified by history, you can't rely on archaeology or serious historians who know the difference between exaggerated tales like giant ants the size of dogs or a matriarchy where boys' hip were broken from a young age to prevent rebellion. Good luck with that. You'll need it.

Who?

He had a good source on Scythians, even named him at one point. For other cultures, not so much. I’ve seen it suggested that the female warriors of the region are the inspiration for the Amazons
