Why did Spain fall behind England so sharply after 1600?
hyperinflation from new world gold

Spain never had an industrial revolution.

>>18507428Britain had the sea as a natural barrier separating it from other nations so less money was allocated on war expenses and more time allocated to growth. After the normans they pretty much had a period of complete peace for more than 500 years.

>>18508025You're right, but now you mention them... they're finished. England loses the Hundred Years War, so no need to pour money into retaining non-existent continental holdings. The WotR exhaust the nobility to an extent that internal squabbling just isn't on the table right now. The United Kingdom is formed, so that other internal issue is resolved (for 40 years anyway). And once you've got the navy to defend the realm (and they proved they can with the Armada), why not use the seas to make money while Spain is busy spending her wealth as soon as she gets it to defend and press continental land interests which, to return to the first point, you haven't got any more?

>>18507810>Britain had the sea as a natural barrierA curious claim given that the ancestors of the English managed to cross that sea and conquer the island, and that Spain was conquered from across the Mediterranean by Moors

>>18507428Wow, seven centuries much amaze, dutch east india company, voc, joint stock company, much amaze, naval insurance, joint stock company, much amaze, carcassone, cataclysms caused to spice islands during the 1600 or 1700s not pictured on graph, john huizinga, what happened was that spain kicked out all the jews or something like that kicked out all the sephardic which i would claim just to be utterly gross on 4chan what was the kingdom of castile or something thinking anyway that ended up being not a good decision because what happened was the spanish netherlands rebelled cause the hapsburgers were getting tyranous and that’s also when dutch humanism and that sort of thing and am going to claim that the expulsion of the jews from spain took almost one hundred years to get felt fully or something like that and by that time spain was not the spain of castile and aragon but the spain of the hapburgers and meanwhile a bunch of the sephardic jews moved to spain and england was going to war with everyone or something like that
>>18508399The normans are so annoying on some level and i think that’s probably part of what conquered england and that’s part to like why are the normans speaking french and partly no doubt without doubt doubtlessly that were partially true and the only way to combat that were to meet the normans on the field to battle omelette du fromage and democratic and republican processes or something like that
