The bohemian revolt of 1618 is successful. A new state is established, it is a confederacy comprised of the lands of the bohemian crown, upper and lower austria and upper hungary. It's modeled after the Netherlands, it's majority protestant and it's primarly ruled by the nobility with the king having limited power. The king is Friedrich V. of Pfalz.
How would history have turned out if central europe had been dominated by the protestant bohemian nobility instead of the catholic Habsburgs?

the catholic loyal lands in the west wouldve been swallowed by france, catholic loyal lands in the south swallowed by austria
a very weird outcome, kinda too difficult to predict to today since so many things would be different

oh i realized you mentioned austria as part of the confederation, the Papal States/spain/naples would eat that shit up

That’s not even remotely what the Bohemians were seeking. If they succeeded, it would just mean the Elector-Palatine became king of Bohemia instead of the Archduke of Austria.

>bohemians win
>austria/hungary becomes part of their country

Really? I remember reading that the protestant nobles of upper and lower austria supported the bohemians and even sign some treaty that would make the subjects of the bohemian king if bohemia had won. A similar treaty was signed with Gabriel Bethlen, but I'm not really sure about it. And iirc the bohemian nobles wanted a form of government similar to the one which the Netherlands had. I may have misread the source though and it's possible that it stated that the bohemian state would have been similar to the Netherlands. I'll try to find the source.

Is it possible that the whole HRE would have become protestant?
>>

A very unlikely scenario as Friedrich didn't have the support of nearly all the protestant estates within the realm to begin with. The Protestant Union even told him off when they learned about his candidature as bohemian king.
Anyways if it comes through, then the HRE would either cease to exist two centuries earlier or it would slog along with some territorial losses - France was very good at exploiting the internal quarrlels of the HRE.

Iirc correctly there was a small uprising somewhere in Austria that coincided with the first phase of the 30YW. But the majority of the Austrian estates remained loyal. I have to read up on that more. Also on Bethlen.

Very unlikely as Catholicism was very institutionally entrenched. And the times of large religious shifts was practically over since 1555 with the Peace of Augsburg.

I tried to find more info and here's an article in german about the bohemian-austrian confederation

Regarding hungary the information is harder to find. Some articles in czech claimed that Bethlen joined the confederation but I couldn't find info in english. He was definitely allied with the rebels though

Ok, here's an article about Bethlen's role in the revolt. He really did join the confederation
