Actually at least in large cities, what dominates here is secularism, not demonolatry as in Latinx America. Brazil, as well as all of these countries, was created on superstitions which is why the worship of magical black people is common to every João, Juarez, o algo it is part of the Latin American identity, it is part of your culture.

>>18509635
Well you haven't read much social history if you think the common medieval peasant was in any way more orthodox than some spic doing folk-saint bullshittery. The divide between the lay people and the church is very well attested.
And, of course, not everyone follows afro-syncretisms. Most people don't.

>>18509680
You don't in Latin American countries, either. They're not as widespread as you seem to think. Even in Brazil afro-syncretism is being diplaced by charismatic chritianity.
Functionally they aren't anything you would not see in medieval europe. Or even among old people right now.

Why do you seem so upset? I don't care at all about the spiritual condition, or rather, the lack thereof, of your country.

But it's undeniable that your country is superstitious, and this cult of flying Nigerians is very widespread. And reading the history of your small country, it becomes very clear that the conversion was very poorly done, and your government even expelled the Jesuits to prevent a proper catechization of the population isn't? And I don't know what you meant by that, why do you mentioned peasants? in Italy or any truly Catholic country there isn't this strange addition of slave deities integrated into the faith system, nor is Jesus treated simply as a god of a pantheon.

Witch burning for example is a product of the early Modern Age, reaching its peak in the 16th and 17th centuries. Local folk magic or "superstitions" were not as widespread as in Latin America and were condemned by the Church
something your country, for example, didn't even bother to try when the faithful worshipped flying Nigerians.

The institutional burning of witches was not common in the daily life of a medieval peasant, for example, and is a myth widely spread by the Enlightenment. But, whatever superstition you're thinking of, medieval peasants did not worship gods.
>>
>>18509788
Did you know that in saarazil Catholics are so arrogant that they believe the discovery of the country was somehow a special favor from God because it was discovered at Easter? And therefore it is unique compared to other countries placing them in a spiritually superior position?

>God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
>Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

The real question is why the Zucoids would love this if, from what I've read it's something purely Cuban? What does Cuba have to do with Brazil? It's not like there's much cultural exchange between the two, is there?

Both countries are spiritually Black activists and both have had a Black population that didn't integrate well

That's because you live in 21st century Italy and not Medieval Italy.
Remnants of Paganism that survived in Europe are what we call "hillbilly bumpkin peasant superstitions" (i.e Pagan, literally country-side dweller). Some old quack grandma reading signs in a cup of tea or villagers praying to a Saint's statue for fertility is the same idea/mental process as these Brazilians praying to some Umbadumba whatever

'zilian here and a lot of the opinions on this thread seem completely alienated from what religiosity here actually is. Maybe it's regional differences but I think ive met like 1-3 people who actually believe and practice anything resembling african religiosity and for most of my life this type of thing was seen as a punchline to a joke. I have never seen a non white priest in my local church with at most a couple brown nuns. Saint George has strong associations with black brazilian magic and poor people when it's his day but that's about the extent of which I know these things since im not very religious. Hookers do tend to typically be hyper supersticious though from my experience with both european (specifically french, german and romanian ones) and brazilian hookers so there's that
LATAM hookers typically believe the dort of magic OP is talking about and a lot of tarot relate shit

>Initially they included mainly Indian figures such as devas, asuras and yakshas
Only the Devas are gods on this list and they are not of divine origin.

>Rebirth as a deva is considered a favorable outcome resulting from virtuous deeds (karman) performed in previous lifetimes. While the heavenly realms of devas are regarded as auspicious, they are impermanent and remain part of the cyclic existence of saṃsāra, rather than being eternal heavens. Devas are not all necessarily wise or on the Buddhist path and hence not objects of refuge. They have very long lives which have much less suffering than humans, but are not immortal or immune from suffering. Some devas have no physical form and exist in the formless realms. None of them are creator gods, and they are neither omniscient nor omnipotent

What you would call the true God in Buddhism is Baka Brahma.

>Brahmā Baka (literally "crane-Brahmā") appears in the Majjhima Nikaya, where he is a deity who believes that his world is permanent and without decay (and that therefore he is immortal), and that therefore there are no higher worlds than his
