Democracy is just a euphemism for a divided society.
On the contrary, the only real democracy is when you have a genuinely unified society where elections aren't just the expression of a cold civil war.Switzerland comes fairly close to this

>>18510014The problem is and always has been the proliferation of mass media. Before the mid 20th century people’s values generally blowed with what they felt was good for them and their people. There were certain regions and states that voted strongly one way or another but this was not absolute and you could have the population strongly swing towards supporting someone from the opposite party if they are charismatic enough. Thats how it’s supposed to work. How modern democracies work now in many countries but especially the U.S. is that parry machines entrench themselves and blast propaganda about opposition candidates 24/7 even if it’s fake. Sensible voices are shut out.

It aligns the interests of powerful people with what the population thinks are its interests. Obviously we are wrong about those a decent portion of the time, but it beats aristocrats sucking each other's and King's dick while letting the commoners die of starvation.
