Egyptian tanks on the move during the five day conflict between Egypt and Libya in July 1977. Libyan leader Muammar Qadaffi had proposed a political union of the two countries which Cairo rejected and the former was also angered by Egyptian president Anwar Sadat's moves towards a peace settlement with Israel. Qadaffi began sponsoring uprisings and assassination plots against Sadat.Armed clashes erupted along the border on July 21. Egyptian troops moved into Libyan territory and the Libyan military lost significant amounts of men and material before Sadat declared a cease fire on the 24th and withdrew his troops across the border. Both sides claimed victory. At least 400 Libyan military personnel were killed or wounded and around 100 Egyptians.
>>18510414Was Egypt really still using Crusader tanks in the 70s?
>>18510414Qadaffi was a total retard to attack a country with 2-3x as much population as Libya.
>>18510414Forcing armies to fight in mid-July in North Africa is just mean. You could fry an egg on the desert sand that time of year.
>>18510686i've been to Egypt for tourism in summertime. it's hot but the humidity is extremely low so it's not actually that bad.
>>18510686Didn't most of the combat action in NA during WW2 take place in the winter months? I wouldn't want to be fighting in 102F temperatures either.
>>18510414Pic unrelated. These are British tanks on the move during the 6 year conflict between Britain and Germany between September 1939 and May 1945.
>>18510691Yes. It's the same reason Desert Storm took place in February.
>>18510434no, those black berets were worn by British Armoured crew. This pic is from North Africa around 1941/42.
