Would reconstruction violence have been prevented without the 14th amendment and reconstruction acts? Imagine if today the federal government suddenly gave illegal immigrants in florida the right to vote, and lots of californian liberals moved to the state and could vote in a few months. This kind of forced demographic shift would be opposed.

Could jim crow and white supremacy have been prevented if black citizenship or alternatives were given time for deliberation and happened gradually?
