What does the Hadith and Quran say about the Prophet and his 6 year old wife?

In the Hadith, in the section regarding Nikaah [marriage] it is stated that he remained with her for 9 years- till the "prophet's" death. He "consummated" [i.e. had sex] when she was 9, but as the Quran is against forced marriage, among other quotes, it is presumed she consented. Though she was 6, so it is questionable to the extent this consent was legit.
