I'll give you a quick rundown:

Latins want to become white by converting to/cargo-culting their religion (i.e. low church Protestantism) meanwhile white Americans believe modern culture was a mistake and think Protestantism is responsible for it (well it kind of is but that is beside the point).

that's just cope, the fact is most latinxers were just census catholics (i.e. unless you explicitly considered yourself non-catholic it was assumed you were catholic) until evangelicals started proselytising there.
