>Guy with PHD in Ancient Greek history says the academia situation in the US is currently so bad that he makes more money from his youtube channel that gets 2-3K views per video than he does from giving lectures
How do we save history, /his/?
>>
YouTube videos aren't monetised at 3k views, so he's lying to you. Deal with that first.
>>
>>18519907
doesnt it go by subscriber count? as in once you reach x subscriptions, your videos are eligible for monetization.
regardless, i've gotten ads on very low view count videos plenty of times
>>
>>18520036
Unmonetized videos can still get ads, the uploaders just don't get a share of the ad revenue. You think Google just hosts a site as massive as youtube for free?
>>
>>18520036
Yes, you need 10k subs to be eligible for monetization.
>>
>>18520118
Well he has 70K
>>

>70k subscribers

>why aren't people watching hour long videos about wrestlers?
>>
>>18520449
The point was that those videos are more lucrative than giving lectures on ancient Greece.

History is not a very economically viable degree. The #1 thing people do with it is... teach history.

That doesn't mean it's worthless - far from it. Of course I love history, since I'm here. But it's like, let's say, spending some quiet time in the park. That's very valuable for you on an individual level, but it's not contributing to the economy.
>>
>Tradcons worship ancient greece, rome, the spanish empire etc
>refuses to support the academic humanities

curious

You don't go into academia for money in the first place. The only people making serious money are at the top of their field (and usually have political connections) or they're in STEM with military/industry contracts.

Capitalism simply doesn't do a very good job at supporting things we deem important if they happen to be unprofitable.

>>18520118
I got monetized at 1k subs.

I used my history degree to go to law school.
>>
>>18520445
Thanks, I'm going to report him so that his channel gets demonetized. Time to do a real job, bitch.
>>

Americans are utterly mindbroken and think doing anything that doesn't generate max dollars is a waste. Truly the perfect npc slave class
>>
>>18519884
History and other humanities is supposed to be for rich kids who don't need to work. That's how you keep those disciplines pure and unideological.
>>
>>18522906
>I used my history degree to go to law school.
No you didn't. A bachelor's degree is not required for law school.

Bro Thersites is already known here, it’s not doxxing.
>>

Yeah, but history is highly political now.
There was a thread on here about the myth of "ancient Israel" and some jew started chimping out about it.
>>

Academia is only bad to anglos who think they should be able to teach at the best schools in the finest coastal cities of the anglosphere. It’s not that hard to find a job if you are willing to move to Puxwuckkistan, Nebraska or outside the anglosphere.

Think of all the foreign profs who came to teach at your school. Do you think their first choice was to leave their nation? This is especially true if you didn’t go to a place like Oxford or Harvard, but some shitty state school. What’s stopping you from learning Spanish and going to teach Roman History in Mexico or some shit? Maybe being forced to speak some sermo vulgaris will help you think about Rome in a new way, too.
