Journalists should be terminally banned from writing history books. A professional formation and proper certification in any given field should be the bare minimun for me to give a flying fuck about what you have to say and to take you seriously. The same way I wouldnt trust anyone who isnt a lawyer to suddenly help me in court I wouldnt trust someone who at the very least has a master's degree to tell me about all of human history. For some reason history is one of the few fields where quack journalists can fill airport book store shelves with their nonsense and expect people to pick it up, with some of these poorly researched books written out of their ass selling thousands, even millions, of copies all over the world. How is this acceptable? Does the average joe simply refuse to do the smallest background check on people who preach about serious shit? Im currently studying medicine and I know for a fact you can probably be held legally accountable if you spread wrong information about how one's body works in whatever dreck you write down but the same doesnt ring true for history. Im just surprised pseudointellectual quack history gets such a huge following when the only other fields that come close to it are maybe religion and stuff having to do with fitness. Maybe its an acessability thing but im not some kind of super duper mega nerd and I can read works made by actual historians just fine, so what is it?
