Spanish churches look tiny next to them. How did that happen?

>Why were amerindian temples always so massive
Increased mass is how you build upwards if you have limited technology and want stability.

And it's not like you can't build up, it lets everyone know the gods (and their priests) have a HUGE penis. Very important.

Now compare that to the ancient Germanic "cities." The Norsemen stopped interfering in our Mesoamerican historical community for some reason. As already mentioned, there wasn't a Spanish "conquest," but the natives took advantage of the Spanish and there was assimilation. For a long time, the cities and temples weren't completely abandoned, and these churches used stones from the temples to build them

Yeah, the south american atlantis colony was pretty great until they sacrificed all the white people from atlantis to their gods and caused their civilization to collapse
>>
>>18530919
They were essentially building mountains in order to get closer to the gods. Churches are temples where the spirit of god is supposed to dwell. So while both strive for inspiring awe through size, one was a rather simple structure that could be built pretty much as high as the labor and resources could reach, whereas the other was an enclosed and roofed edifice limited by the architectural and technological skill available to support said roof. That being said, the conquistadors swung their massive cocks and demolished those puny temples to build their churches, so who was really bigger?

I can tell why amerind schizos prefer to label themselves red online, the level of brown retardation from third worlders in this board is unreal

Most pyramids aren't that large, in fact you could argue most settlements with pyramids had pyramids commesurate with European Cathedrals, or big Islamic Mosques.

They're just piles of dirt.
>>
>>18531194
This image seems to exaggerate Cholula's proportions, no? Its height maxes out at 25 metres vs the Pyramid of the Sun's 75, but they look the same height here lol
>>
>>18530919
Because those are the ones that become famous. There were plenty of Mesoamerican temples that were pretty small.
>>

Anything south of the united states is south america, theyre all the same people and culture down there.

Such as?

From the top of my head
>pic related (El Meco)
>the temples at the ruins of qumarkaj
>the temples at Tulum
What I'm trying to say is that you're basically doing the equivalent of saying that Christian churches are all 100-meter tall behemoths because gothic cathedrals are a thing while ignoring the fact that modest town churches and chapels exist

Pretty sure we only have the bottom part left don't we?.

I was under the impression the Great Pyramid of Cholula was around 60m tall, around the same height as the Sun pyramid.
>>
>>18532100
Answer to what? That's right.

Lived in Mexico 4 years, moved around a fair bit. Lots of towns/cities had a modest pyramid/temple remnants either in town or just outside of it. Teopanzolco in Cuernavaca and Tepozteco in Tepoztlán come to mind.

Stands to reason even more modest temples exist. Communities want the gods to favor them but not all can afford a massive complex.
>>
>>18532093
To be fair, even Mexico City's cathedral which was iirc (or still is?) the biggest in the Americas. But is still smaller and less massive than either the pyramid of the sun or cholula.

Most Mesoamerican temples are small. Those big temples are rare just like all churches aren't St. Peters Basilica.
Most of the temple is dead space anyway, only a few had interior parts that go into the pyramid like El Castillo.

Checked Cholula chapters in "Children of the plumed serpent" and it says at it's maximum height it was at least 62m high

It's literally the single largest human monument on the planet by volume. It's "only" 70m tall (which is still pretty dang big), but it's 400 meters wide
>>
>>18532173
you're conflating height with mass and it is fucking massive.

Also that isn't short.

>The adobe brick pyramid stands 25 metres (82 ft)[3] above the surrounding plain
I am just going by Wikipedia's numbers. You could argue sediments build-up but not even places in the middle east that have seen 10,000 years of build up get anywhere close to 35 metres
>>
>>18532120
Also this sheet just seems to get a lot of it wrong. It also dates it at 1100AD but it's from 300BC
>>
Cholula pyramid is mostly composed of lower quality materials than churches, so thats one reason.
I would say Teotihuacan pyramids were still much more difficult to built in comparaison to cholula, i remember there was one study which shows how much people it required, maybe ill post it if i find it.
>>
>>18532597
Well,, Wikipedia's numbers are wrong, see >>18532155

It's also not purely adobe brick, some construction phases are stone
