Why did (and is) Protestantism/Evangelicalism popular/gaining popularity in sub Saharan africa and Catholicism? What does it offer exactly that Catholicism doesn’t? A big part of Catholicism seems to be the projection of authority through aesthetics, but the average person nowadays doesn’t care for aesthetics.

Modern Rome is a modernist church.
I think the part where they don't rape your children appeals to them very much

>>18530989>>18531131As much as the e-caths cope otherwise the simple truth is that evangelicals, charismatics, pentecostals etc proselytise while the catholic church (and most mainline prot denominations) stopped bothering some time in the 20th century. My guess is that Vatican II took the winds out of the sails on the prosleytising front, can't really bible thump (jesuit thump?) about the One True Holy Apostolic Catholic Church™ if your own doctrine is just that non-catholic christians are just misguided but otherwise still well within the bounds of christendom

There's something about Protestantism which taps into the commercial grindset with emphasis on self-improvement / "personal responsibility" and if you go to church you'll also do well in your business. Also the more you give in the church service the more money you will make because Jesus likes that. It's furthermore your "choice" in a sense to go to church whereas like you mention the Catholic Church projects authority. It's actually rich kids in Western countries who are converting to Catholicism because they feel ennui at their society being fake and gay, but Africans want to stop being so goddamned poor. "Developmentalism" is a huge thing in the political culture of these countries.https://youtu.be/knBzyEd_PEY
See Julie James Davis for an example of a wealthy Catholic convert. (Jewish originally.) Her whole thing is aesthetics and how modern aesthetics are bad. Catholic converts in the U.S. tend to make more money than the general public and more than "cradle Catholics." It does something for them.

>>18530989Evangelical protestantism is completely false (including within the assumption that Christianity is true), but it's easy, you can make it be whatever you want it to be, and it is therefore the religion for the modern day world. Still wrong though. Narrow and wide gates etc.
>>18530989Catholics mostly attract more wealthy and educated people looking for ancient and cool aesthetics. Evangelicals and other low Church charismatic movements attracts low IQ/poor people attracted by the promises God will make them richBoth dont care that much about the actually dogmas
