He and his unit were later assigned to anti-bandit operation in Belarus where his achievements were recognized with a German Cross in Gold. He was reported as having slain 14,000 bandits. He then fought in the Warsaw uprising of 1944 where he was promoted to the rank of SS-Oberfuhrer and earned his Knight's Cross. He then fought in the Slovak National Uprising.He was killed by the (((Allies))) who had him brutally beaten to death without trial.

The Waffen-SS were not elite units, they were ideologically motivated (or sometimes, as with Dirlewanger's unit, simply opportunistic) shock troops. The regular Heer looked down on the Waffen-SS because the latter had a reputation for stupidly aggressive attacks that wasted German lives for no strategic benefit whatsoever, and then the Heer had to come in and fix things. The Waffen-SS was the equivalent of that friend who starts a bar fight when outnumbered, then goes down with the first punch and leaves you to get your ass beaten for half an hour straight.
