Other civilization, like Islamic, Chinese, Japanese, and to some extent Ibero-Latam take pride in their history and ancestors, admiring all of what they achieved and even claim those achievements as if it's theirs. However, a lot of Europeans and North Americans disdain at their ancestors as if they are nothing but a bunch of stupid illiterate barbarians who destroyed land, lived under intense famines and plagues, raped and pillaged everywhere they went, and believed primitive superstitions, thinking their modern selves are better than them. The only history they genuinely admire is the ancient Greco-Roman, which some would argue it's more like a larp/appropriation than ancestor appreciation, especially if they are of Northern European descent. And whenever people do take pride in their history or ancestry from the Middle Ages or Early Modern period, they are assumed that they glorify racist/sexist pigs. Could this be due to Enlightenment thinkers who shunned their medieval ancestors, and we picked up the same and assume all our ancestors from 50+ years back are the same?

Most prestigious Western universities have courses on English literature and philosophy that will cover the middle ages, the Renaissance, etc. The fact that something as niche as Gothic literature and all its themes is still receiving ongoing commentary is a testament to the fact that Westerners are engaged in an eternal discourse with our ancestors. It looks different to say Chinese engagement with their ancestors because we treat ours as effectively disembodied but contemporaneous. So we engage with them as seriously as if they were fellow interlocutors.

it's probably due to the fact that the goal of people in power is to disrupt (or completely destroy) communities, as to make sure the non-elite cannot rebel effectively. the tight-knit nature of the groups you mentioned (islamic, east-asian, african) especially in media production and consumption, are hard to infiltrate and weaken, therefore allowing for more connection between others through ancestral ties, unlike predominantly white cultures.
