Everyone worships a 'god' of some kind, for there just be something you value above all other things that necessarily orders everything under it. Their god becomes blood, soil, freedom, sexuality, money, power, intellect, wealth or any other number of things ill fit for the spot. There's something they're willing to kill and die for, even if it's just 'self'.
