Was the Old Kingdom of Egypt the unironic high water mark of human civilization? The concept of Ma'at dictated stability and continuity over innovation, every caste had a sacred purpose, even lower castes were afforded basic dignity according to law and religion, the predictable flood cycle guaranteed massive food surpluses, diet was pretty healthy, there were usually no enemies powerful enough to threaten them... I understand Philhellenes and Romaboos but I'd rather have lived in ancient Egypt than either of those places.
>>18538099It wasnt even the high water mark of ancient egyptian civilization.
>>18538099I think the erradication of smallpox is more worthy of being considered humanity's high water mark rather than some drab agrarian despotate. As nice as it might've been.
>>18538118Then what was, and why?
>>18538099Also the women walked around topless all the time.
>>18538119Impressive achievement of course but the whole world was already fucked way before that point.
>even lower castes were afforded basic dignity according to law and religionThey could be killed for retarded arbitrary reasons, there was tons of slaves, the government was constantly raiding and pillaging their neighbors, and everyone's teeth were melting because they were eating sand all day
>>18538099Concepts like Ma’at weren’t even fully developed by the Old Kingdom period. People project the culture and ideology of the New Kingdom backwards onto the rest of Egyptian history, and even the culture of the New Kingdom was different depending on the century. The Old Kingdom seems to have focused more on Ra worship and the Pharaoh probably played an even greater role in the religion back then as well.
>>18538216>The Old Kingdom seems to have focused more on Ra worship and the Pharaoh probably played an even greater role in the religion back then as well. This is obviously evident in the massive amount of resources it would have taken to construct the pyramids. There's also a theory that Khufu started explicitly identifying the Pharaoh with Ra, even claiming to be Ra himself, which is why it's only from his sons Djedefre and Khafre onwards that the royal title (nomen) of "Son of Ra" appears - initially this could have been quite literal as Djedefre and Khafre were the sons of Khufu/Ra and then it became a lineage title for every Pharaoh following Khufu.
>>18538212>Pharoah wuz the most Evil person in the world>Egypt wuz a conquering Evil slave Empire Kek. Spiteful Indian-Euro/Semitic fags created their entire 2300 years old Abrahamic Aryan pedofag demon cult on the hatred of the Ancient Egyptians. They must some of their ancestral Aamu Choas desert demons memory still intact.
