We're now on the 32nd day of my daily presidents threads celebrating the 250th anniversary of the USA.
Today we have Harry S. Truman (5/8/1884 - 12/26/1972), who served as president from 1945 to 1952. Prior to being president he was a senator from Missouri. After being president he founded the first presidential library.
Notable actions or events during his presidency include the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Philippine Independence, the Marshall Plan, the Truman Doctrine, the Founding of NATO, the Korean War, the 1946 Strike Wave, the Mental Health Act, the Potsdam Conference, the Housing Act of 1949, the Fair Deal, the Sherman Minton Supreme Court Nomination, the 1952 Steel Strike, and the Puerto Rico Referendum.

What do you think of the guy who fucked his wife so hard he broke the bed?

Truman grew into the job but his first year and a half was pretty poor and he didn't have a lot of clue what he was doing, and he allowed Republicans to retake Congress in the '46 elections.
>>
The most freemasonic friendly president in American history, and that's really saying something.
>>
>>18539666
did you know that as a kid he was a shabbos goy for his Jewish neighbors in Independence?
>>
>>18539666
>You think anyone in Hiroshima, or Nagasaki, gives a s**t who built the bomb? They care who dropped it. I did.

Don't let those cry babies into this thread
>>
>absolutely cucked into signing Taft-Hartley
LBJfag will show up to whine about that shortly.
>>
If Truman knew what Israel really wanted to do with the Palestinians, would he still have funded them? Or would he try to warn the next president?
>>
>>18539711
doubt he cared, he just wanted to get Jewish votes in the '48 election
>>

The 80th Congress got things turned around and nuked the remnants of the New Deal which got the postwar economy rolling.
>>
>>18539721
>Programs to fix the economy after the great depression
>One of FDR's greatest feats
>Many of these institutions are still around today helping fellow americans.

Explain why the new deal was bad.
>>
>>18539721
Realistically the New Deal was over by the war, even as early as 1939. By the time Truman was president the general mentality was Americans had tired of top-down government planning and desired a return to normalcy.
>>
Truman was responsible in large part for ruining relations with Moscow and starting off the Cold War.

Repaired and modernized the White House which was a rotting shack in danger of collapsing by the time he was president.
>>
>>18539734
as cf. Stalin originally proposed an intact, neutral Germany but Truman distrusted Soviet intentions and wouldn't agree to it
>>
the '48 Democrat platform was the first one to endorse civil rights
>>
>>18539742
“Neutral Germany” was a ruse so as to call the elections fraudulent and invade to back up the German communists same as what they did in Korea.
>>
>>18539742
as i believe was mentioned before, Stalin took advantage of Truman's inexperience to grab East Prussia and shift Poland's borders westward. under FDR's original plan Germany would have been restored to its 1937 borders and keep East Prussia.
>>
Truman was definitely foolish to accept the communist offer of a temporary ceasefire in Korea which gave the Chinese time to rebuild their destroyed army.

>One evening in 1947, the Daughters of the American Revolution were having a ballroom gathering in the White House when to everyone's horror, the ceiling above, including a large chandelier, started quaking. Above them was the White House bathroom where the president was soaking in the tub. Truman got out to dry off and get dressed, and the mere movement of his feet on the floor was enough to cause tremors below. He later joked "Imagine if the tub had fallen through the floor with me in it and I landed down there in my birthday suit in front of all those ladies."[43]

Truman is directly responsible for the shit we're dealing with right now at this very minute in the Middle East by throwing his lot in with Israel against the advice of Marshall and others because he thought he needed the jewish vote to win in 1948. He was honestly a really bad president in general, also an asshole. There's him lying about being broke too when really he was just too much of miserly penny pincher.

>There's him lying about being broke too when really he was just too much of miserly penny pincher.
he was the first president to receive a presidential pension when that was started in the 60s
>>
>>18540284
He was pretty unreasonably partisan and openly hated Republicans as he blamed Hoover for causing his haberdashery business to go bankrupt in the Depression.
>>
>>18540290
I like the time he sent an unhinged letter to a guy threatening to beat him up because the guy criticized his daughter's shitty singing recital.
>>
>>18540290
>>18540295
this Truman fellow sounds like a faggot.
>>
>>18540290
Truman's behavior during the transition period after Eisenhower's election was unbecoming and beyond rude.

Harry Truman, weird little human,
Serves two terms and when he's done...
>>
>>18540298
he kind of was. he had this shittalking bro dude from the street attitude that is a bit unacceptable in a president.
>>
>>18539666
Stopping MacArthur from using nukes makes Truman a top 5 president by default.
>>
>>18539751
I find that hard to believe considering how much of an Stalin ass kisser FDR was. If anything Stalin would probably strip Germany of even more territory if FDR was still president when Germany finally surrendered.
>>
>>18541826
Eisenhower would never have been pushed to the point of asking for nukes if Truman didn't handle the war so poorly.
>>
>>18541986
I mean, MacArthur.
>>
>>18541986
The US was always going to eat shit in Korea.
We were too cocky.
>>
> It's a shame we can't go in and devastate Germany and cut off a few of the Dutch kids' hands and feet and scalp a few of their old men but I guess it will be better to make them work for France and Belgium for fifty years.
Harry Truman on the end of WW1.
