Lawyers used to be obscenely wealthy in ancient Rome. There's records of them amassing over 300 million sesterces from their work.To put that in perspective, a Roman legionary soldier at the time earned just 900 sesterces a year.
Late Roman Republic politics were extremely competitive and one way to get an edge on your rivals was to accuse them of crimes (provincial governors were basically all guilty, too)so a good orator who could convince a Roman court you were innocent was worth tons of money
who's the last non lawyer president?Carter?
>>18540549fuck lawyers. they don't actually make anything.
>>18540563The current one, and the previous one was a lawyer very briefly
>>18540549Because the barriers to entry to become a lawyer are much lower than they were in the past, so now any Joe Schmo off the street can become a lawyer.
>>18540549Nothing, attorneys still make at least 3 figures per hour of work. I wish court justice was more accessible, I don't like it that there's a tax-funded, government-owned place for dispute resolution, provided as public service to citizens of the nation, but it's super-expensive and last resort even for the wealthiest corporations.
>>18540574why it's so expensive then?
