We're now on the 34th day of my daily presidents threads celebrating the 250th anniversary of the USA.
Today we have Dwight D. Eisenhower (5/29/1917 - 11/22/1963), who served as president from 1961 to his assassination in 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. He is the most recent president to be assassinated and also die in office. Prior to being president, he was a senator and representative from Massachusetts. He also served in the navy during WW2.
Notable actions or events during his presidency include the New Frontier Speech, the Kennedy Doctrine, the "A Strategy of Peace" Address, Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Civil Rights Address, the Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, the Clean Air Act, the Peace Corps, and the Apollo Program.

What do you think of the man who had asymmetrical limbs?

>Dwight D. Eisenhower
Oops
Ignore that and pretend I have a brain
>>
>rich pretty boy whose dad bought him the presidency
>gets shot
>>
He grew up so rich that he did not know the Great Depression happened until he went to college and read about it in a book.
>>
It's astonishing to read just what a sickly walking corpse he was in contrast to his public image. He was so frail that some question if he could have survived a second term at all.
>>
>>18542650
Dying was the best thing that ever happened to this staunch liberal.
>>
>had to phone Nixon to ask for help during the Bay of Pigs invasion
>>
>>18542650
Why is he so overrated? Everybody keeps talking about him as if he's on the same level as Theodore Roosevelt or Thomas Jefferson. In reality, this faggot is only remembered for his (mis)handling of the Cuban Missile Crisis and subsequent assassination. Notable stuff include freeing Martin Luther Kang, a face of the disasterous civil rights movement, and his speech about being a donut. He only served two years and after he died, he gave us LBJ, a shitty successor to a shitty pres.
Had he not gotten assassinated, he would have been forgetten.

that is covered here. the DC elite class idolized the Kennedys and thought they brought some kind of high class glamour back to the White House instead of the previous two Midwestern rube presidents.
>>
>>18542650
Useless.
>>
the next two threads are going to be completely and utterly horrifying. OP should just skip ahead to Gerald Ford.
>>

>his speech about being a donut
That's not true. Those Berliners knew what JFK was talking about ("I am a Berliner"), and they referred to that jelly doughnut as a Pfannkuchen. It is only outside Berlin that the jelly doughnut is referred to as a Berliner.

>>18542673
all that buildup and the files get released and it turns out it really was just an edgy leftist punk with a mail order rifle all along
>>
>>18542851
You want the good Ford but you need the bad Johnson.
>>
>>18542861
btw there was a documentary where some of Oswald's former Marine colleagues were interviewed and they said he totally had the politics, mentality, and motivation to do it, and he was also a good enough marksman that he could pull off those shots pretty easily
>>
>>18542650
Geez did the Painter need to go so hard on JFK Aura farming
>>
>>18542650
He cheated Nixon and colluded with the governor of Hawaii to steal the state for him
>>
No other President will have a speech writer as talented as Ted Sorensen, he was the guy who made all of JFKs speeches sound super kino
>>
>>18542771
Kennedy always had the "Rich arrogant New England" energy, in another life he would've been captain of the Football team. He perfectly captured the arrogant Prep School/Harvard grad stereotype. I was surprised to learn that The Dover Boys short came out in 1942 which means the main antagonist couldn't have been inspired by Kennedy, Kennedy himself just perfectly fit an existing stereotype
>>
>>18543162
>antagonist
I mean protagonist (or I guess antagonist if you're Dan Backslide)
>>
>>18543162
it's ironic considering the Kennedys were outcasts in Hyannis Port as Irish Catholics in a mostly WASP community and faced discrimination there
>>
>Kennedy's election was hyped as proof that America had overcome longstanding anti-Catholic prejudices, but this belies the fact that voter preferences remained mostly split on religious and ethnic lines. He carried the Catholic vote by 83%, the black vote by 70%, the Jewish vote by 83%. Nixon's voter base for contrast was predominantly white and Protestant. About 30% of Protestant voters crossed over to vote for Kennedy, helping secure his win.[2]

she wasn't really the beauty the media made her out to be

John Jr. was objectively GQ-tier though. It's weird how once in a while you have a looker in a family of mostly uggos.
>>
>>18543901
It was all hype like when they tried to pretend a certain more recent Democrat First Lady was hot.
>>
>>18543901
did i mention she was literally a mail order bride?

>JFK is almost 35
>his mother is like c'mon Jack, you need a wife already
>she just picks Jackie out of a catalog of eligible society girls

>Mrs. Kennedy visited the White House in early December 1960 and was given a guided tour by Mamie Eisenhower. The visit was extremely difficult as she had given birth to John Jr. only three weeks ago and was still recovering from the pregnancy and she was on the verge of passing out a few times. Not wanting to look crippled or sick, she declined offers to use a wheelchair.

>It was commonly reported that Mamie acted rudely to her and said "The [wheelchair]'s in the closet upstairs. If she wants it she can go get it herself." This seems unbelievable as Mamie prided herself too much on being a gracious host.
>>
>She was also appalled at what she referred to as the shabby state of White House decor, which she compared to "a cheap Midwestern motel." Mrs. Kennedy especially couldn't stand Mamie Eisenhower's choices of colors--"The pink, the pink."[9]
>>
>>18543931
Jackie had a terrible time with pregnancies because she had a blocky, mannish build with no hips. This kind of woman pre-modern medicine usually died in childbirth as nature removed them from the gene pool.
>>
as i think has already been mentioned, the thread for today is going to be an extremely bad one
>>

Man, I wish it were still this simple

Laura Bush had a bad track record too for same reason. Poor physique that made having kids difficult.

That's why they put so much effort into embodying the perfect preppy WASP archetype, at least for the public-facing side of their lives.
