>Charlemagne
>control the entirety of remaining Latin land
>Franks have Roman feudatory status and have been integrated with the pre-fall military for centuries
>so a remnant of the Roman military rebuilds the remainder of the ethnically Roman part of the empire
>use Latin as written language and encourage spread and revival
>ruler of Rome (the city) and the Roman people acknowledge him as ruler
>not Roman

>Eastern Romans (pre-11th century)
>heartland in Anatolia (Romania)
>non-latin language
>state continuity and caesarship
>same state religion as Rome
>eventually lose entire heartland to “Sultans of Rome” (turks)

>Greeks (post 11th century)
>no longer rule “Romania”
>separate religion from Rome (schism)
>only claim is legal claim to Caesar/Augustus title and control of Constantinople
>true Romans in spite of linguistic and religious differences

>Turks post-1453
>rule entirety of “Romania” including Greece
>rule from Constantinople
>claim Caesarhood
>Ecumenical patriarch acknowledges Caesarhood
>Orthodox Church acknowledges Islam as valid
>ultimately reconquer and expand on the whole of Eastern Roman territory
>somehow not Romans in spite of legal continuity of Caesarhood, ruling from Constantinople, and ruling all of “Romania”
>speaking some Turkish is a barrier to Romanness but speaking Greek or Isaurian is not
>practicing Islam (a religion separate from Rome itself or ancestral hellenic religion) is an insurmountable barrier but being in permanent schism from Rome and ethnically hating Latins is not a barrier when Greeks do it

Greeks are obviously pretty historically integrated into the Roman fold, but a lot of their arguments about being the sole “true Romans” as compared to the Latin west can be applied to Turks.

>Bisop of Rome grants muslims a temporary closet to pray in
>Latin Church is heretical because of it
>Eastern Churches acknowledge Islam as valid and the Caesars (Ottomans) until the fucking 1900s
>not heretical

I honestly have no opinion on this I just roll my eyes when I see these greeks or ethnics in the US act like the modern greek orthodox church or modern greeks have a claim as true romans but the 9th century latins do not. They treat it like a live issue and act like the past 600 years never happened.

To make one final point. Justinian spoke Latin and wrote the corpus iuris civilis in Latin. Not Greek. And I say this with immense respect for hellenic culture, and the ability to read both Latin and ancient Greek.

If anything, Greeks aspiring to be 2nd tier Romans show how nonwhite and raped they have always been
