How'd Democrats have control of Congress for almost 60 years between FDR and Clinton?
>>18545438The New Deal
>>18545438The Republican Party's national machine collapsed in the Depression and for decades they were mostly a foreign policy party that controlled the executive rather than the legislative branch. That said it's actually not good for any party to have a monopoly on power that long.
the coalition of the South and Rust Belt union workers was enough to keep them in power most of that time
>>18545438Very skilled propaganda machine blaming Republicans for the Depression that held until the boomers came of age.
>>18545438they used to be conservative
idk why Nixon gets credit for the EPA or whatever when he couldn't really do anything but sign Democrat bills
>>18545749The average person is a moron who doesn't understand how government works.
The Democrat party of the 50's 60' and 70's was about the working man, improving wages and benefits and working conditions, cutting taxes (JFK ran on this). Now its about globalization, climate change, abolishing the borders, and trannies. Not that those are bad ideals, some are very fine ones, its just that people who need a job themselves are less likely to respond to the needs of someone having a tough time on the other side of the planet.
