The Roman siege of Jerusalem under Titus was brutal, but the city was never destroyed and got off far easier than cities such as Corinth, Carthage, Palmyra, etc. Josephus makes an obvious bullshit claim about a million people being killed but the actual raping and pillaging was about par the course for the ancient world. But if that were the case wouldn't that make the story behind the Diaspora mostly fictional?

Antiquities of the Jews frequently omits events from the Bible that depict the Israelites in a negative lens like the Golden Calf incident and it frequently makes up events that are not even biblical such as Moses being a successful Egyptian military general prior to his departure to Midian. Josephus’ other work Against Apion also doesn’t provide any real counterarguments beyond “nuh uh,” “the Bible says otherwise,” or various ad hominems against the Greeks and Egyptians.

You can defend the actions of Israel or decry them, but you can't seriously tell me that there's an unbroken genetic line between the average Jewish person who moved from Brooklyn NY to Tel Aviv in the 70s and the people of Solomon and David.
