Newfags whine about "muh bankers" and "muh Jews" all the time, like an archetypal understanding of the world is sufficient. How about instead of just following the history of nations or religions, we study the history of banking? And not just general industry, and not "muh bloodlines". How about factions? This is the approach I had to studying American banking history. I will get back around to summarizing what I learned there, but I wanted to instead start this thread off with something I just learned.Lots of people talk about muh "City of London" as some hint of an ancient or esoteric power that escapes the power of the British state. Did you know that two of the three largest banks in England moved out of the City of London to the Canary Wharf, which has no history but also enjoys special privileges against taxation and things of that nature? In other words, the "city state within the nation" concept does indicate power and conspiracy, but it's pretty simple. It just means that the state inside the state is capable of defending itself and granting itself special rights. No esoteric theory of law or birth certificates required. That being said, the City of London has been home to the main banking powers in England since forever. They were primarily Florentine bankers in the middle ages, when they made up the Italian super-companies on Lombard St. These were Florentine, not Venetian. If you're looking for the warlord petrodollar bankers, it's the Venetians. Conversely, the Florentines were their rivals. The Florentines were also rivals of the Jews and thus not Jews themselves. Florentines had a special legal argument that usury was allowed because it was a "bill of exchange". I don't care to discuss this autism, but the point is they were moneylenders and effectively controllers of economies. If your criteria for "jew bad" is these characteristics, then you're already drawing the wrong circle around the problem.
The waves of Jewish bankers in England:>Wave 0 — medieval, then erased (1066–1290). Jews came with the Normans as the Crown's moneylenders ("Old Jewry" is still a City street), and were expelled in 1290 — the gap the Italian Lombards filled. So the first Jewish finance was deleted; what we mean by "Jewish banking in the City" is the return.>Wave 1 — the Sephardim, from 1656. The real beginning: Cromwell's readmission (1656), Spanish/Portuguese Jews (many ex-conversos) arriving via Amsterdam, synagogue at Bevis Marks (1701). They went straight to the high-end functions — government loans and bullion: Solomon de Medina, Samson Gideon, the Goldsmids, and Mocatta & Goldsmid (founded 1684, the City's oldest bullion brokers — the gold thread starts here). Sephardi-dominant through the 18th century.>Wave 2 — the Ashkenazim and the Rothschilds (~1808). The Rothschilds are Ashkenazi, from the Frankfurt ghetto. Nathan came first to Manchester as a textile merchant (note: the same cloth-trade seed as the Florentine super-companies), then founded N M Rothschild in the City in 1809, eventually eclipsing the older Sephardic establishment.
>>18546429Now, in America:>Colonial American Jews were Sephardic (the 1654 RecifeNew Amsterdam founding).>The banking houses — Goldman Sachs, Lehman, Kuhn Loeb, Seligman, Lazard, Warburg — were German Ashkenazi (the "Our Crowd" elite), an earlier, assimilated, often-Reform stratum.>Third wave: Eastern European Ashkenazi (1880s–1920s, the "Ostjuden"), whom the German "Our Crowd" looked down on — exactly as the Sephardim had looked down on the Germans.>And the origin rhymes: Lehman started as Alabama cotton brokers, Seligman/Goldman through dry goods — cloth-to-banking for the third time (Florentines/wool, Rothschild/textiles, German-American Jews/dry-goods).On the transition from Sephardic to Ashkenazi:>Rothschilds & the SephardiAshkenazi inversion — yes on both: Until ~1800 the Anglo-Jewish elite was Sephardi-led (the "grandees," who looked down on Ashkenazi newcomers). The Ashkenazi Rothschilds then rose to a power no Sephardic house approached — the most powerful private bank in the world — flipping the internal status ladder. So: Sephardim senior until ~1800; Rothschilds the Ashkenazi house that overturned it.
