What is your opinion on space exploration? Do you think humans should at least make an effort to colonise the solar system? Do you think it's even possible?I am quite conflicted on this. My worldview is a mix of traditionalism and evolutionary realism/primitivism, so I should be opposed to this, but at the same time the fact that humans managed to reach such a level of technological sophistication to send people and probes into space is incredible if you think about it. It seems a bit disingenuous to completely disavow this prospect. We are explorers after all.
>>18547933If space elevators are impossible, then so is colonization of even the solar system.Rockets are not a logistically feasible way to travel through earth's atmosphere on a regular basis.
>>18547933The problem is our conception of the engineering hurdles. Right now, the average person pictures some combination of rocketry and materials science, that's the ticket, but its so far beyond that. Think of it like this, it is orders of magnitude easier to move Tokyo to Antarctica than it is to set up and support a colony of ten for one year on Earth's moon.

>>18547933The greatest human achievements and technological advances were made in service of shit that seemed pointless or unnecessary at the timeThe problem solving of designing SLBMs gave us GPS and the internet for instance Apollo eventually gave us the desktop computer It’s ultimately worth it i think but expectations should be far tempered from elons autistic dreams of a moon base by 2030
