He defeated Napoleon and brought Russia worldwide fame. Finally, tormented by guilt for the murder of his father, he faked his own death and became a hermit monk Fyodor Kuzmich. Was he the most based Russian emperor?
>>
>>18551976
I always thought he looked a bit like Art Garfunkle, especially as the latter got older
>>
I love how that's still a debated topic. But didn't he have a legit death mask made?

>the most based Russian emperor
Alexander III, and it's not even close.

The Decembrists were based and I won't pretend otherwise.

>treats his oldest son like shit causing Nicholas II to be a massive fuckup.
He was an absolute unit and a chad but let's not pretend he wasn't a total dickhead lol.

Britain and Austria have a similar event

Alexander II was the only one whose policies could have preserved the empire, therefore his firstborn heir died and he was killed to be replaced with a dumb chud and his even dumber son.

It's weird that it's always the moderates and reformists that get brutally murdered (Louis XVI, Umberto I, Alexander II, Nicholas II, Maximilian of Mexico, Carlos of Portugal, Faisal II of Iraq).

Russia has this nasty curse of always ending up with the absolute worst possible people in charge.

Had he known that his reign would be cut short he'd likely have spent more time educating him in matters of state, as he took the title of Tsar very seriously. But let's be honest here, a lot of Nicky's suffering was caused by his own actions. He was a narcissistic man child who fucked up the first decade of his reign by holding on to his father's ideals of autocracy while lacking his skills and charisma. The war against Japan, which was both avoidable and winnable, was the cherry on top of the dung cake. Afterwards the Empire made great progress until WW1 broke loose, but even that was because Nicholas was pressured by necessity rather than a him having a genuine desire for modernising Russia.

>Alexander II
Overrated Tsar, the abolition of serfdom was a good thing but forcing the peasants to work off their debt further kept the empire agrarian. He should've focused more on industrialization instead of liberalisation after the abolition, Russia wasn't really ready for such drastic reform anyway.
>could have preserved the empire
The Empire would've been preserved if it wasn't for the outbreak of the First World War. Russia was doing well thanks to the reforms of Stolypin and his successors, and french investment further helped the economy. Nicholas II himself wasn't very competent, but his subordinates were.
>dumb chud
Alexander III was neither of these things, he definitely was a typical Russian autocrat but he did well as evidenced by the economic growth and decade-long peace during his reign. "Chud" isn't fitting for him either as he was a 190 cm unit who had a functional marriage with healthy offspring.
>>
>Started crimea war thinking Britain would back him and later his successor blame former allies Austria despite no position after 1848 revolution
Nicholas I was miscalculated retards
>>
>>18552511
Alexander II probably wasn't worse for the economy than his successors. In 1860 Russian GDP per capita was a higher % of US and UK GDP per capita than in 1913. Continued liberalization would also have meant there's no need to waste resources in futile attempts to further integrate large alien populations like Poland.

Literally only a reformist at gunpoint after being internationally humiliated by Japan, and even then constantly stalling and undermining modernizers like Witte
