When did they start becoming extreme?
>>
>>18553696
WW1 -> rise of Arab nationalism -> rise of the house of Saudi -> export of Saudi’s version of Islam -> several calls from muslim leaders to be more firm in Islam and adopt elements of Saudi’s Islam
>>
>>18553705
This is no longer the case nowadays, yet all forms of islam are extreme worldwide
>>
>>18553710
Hmm… I can’t really think why other than that.

I guess leaders of a country recently broken from colonial political or economic rule try to hold onto their grip of power in a failing democracy or a military regime or a kingdom, they try to use the majority religion that is heavily tied to a political system enforcing control uses it to enforce control by making it stricter?
>>
To think it all started because an Egyptian dude went to the US and thought high-school seniors dancing with members of the opposite sex at prom was degenerate...
>>
>>18553724
Many arab states hate islamists and consistenly oppress them (which is good because islamists are a danger to humanity)
>>
>>18553696
extreme=devout
They are following their religion in the right way.
>>
>>18553730
That's political Islamism, which is a 20th century thing, but Salafism exists since the 18th century (and was promptly oppressed by the Ottomans, who correctly identified Salafism as insane schizo ramblings). I'm not sure which one OP refers to.
In any case, the struggle between Islamists and anti-Islamists is a very real thing in the Muslim world to the present day.
>>
>>18553733
Maybe Islamists and religious extremism are byproduct of stricter restrictions, the political turmoil and unrest the past century, and the blurred lines between islamic extremism and arab nationalism which allowed it to spread across the world?
>>
>>18553734
Yeah islam is extreme in nature, but just 30 years ago women breastfeeding in public was okay but nowadays it is considered a taboo, why is it getting stricter and harsher here?
>>
>>18553742
The balkan had its fair share of political turmoil but they never had a salafi christianity
>>
>>18553696
>>18553705
Yeah it's literally because of wahhabism.
Can you imagine a modern day arab seeing how degenerate the nobility were in the Ottoman Empire with their literal boyslaves. They'd call for a fucking Jihad lmao.
>>
>>18553730
>this is degenerate but all the gay shit in the Ottoman Empire and Bacha Bazi boys in Afghanistan were A-OK
>>
>>18553769
Sayyed qotb deserved to be hanged
>>
>>18553696
>retarded westroons actually think everyone in the middle east wore miniskirts and bikinis before ebil wahhabi chuds came because a jew on twitter posted a cherrypicked pic
Funny thing is even in the west they didn’t wear bikinis until the 60s or so as they were seen as too slutty
>>
>>18553758
>lollards
>cathars
>admires
These sects were exterminated by the church. The yugoslavs massacred each other over doctrine the last century with catholics and orthodox killing each other
>>
>>18553940
As a middle eastern myself we had egyptian movies showing women nipples like they are nothing in the 1970s, idk what happened, it seems like year by year everything is getting more extreme
>>
>>18553964
Most people didn't have even have tvs in the 1970s retard, what you described is basically goyslop for the top 1% elite who wanted to larp as westerners
>>
>>18553975
We had TVs and cinamas and cassets
>>
>>18553980
No, that wasn't affordable for most people in the 70s.
>>
>>18553696
hijab demons are just bratty whores that act holier than thou because they dont dress like your average whore (average foid), but they take it to the extreme by looking like some secretive alien race from some sci fi world
annoying and subhuman behavior
>>
>>18553784
He really was the OG brown chud lol.
>>
>>18554055
The worst thing about hijab is not the fake oppression feminists talk about, but the idea that it gives women somehow value for covering their hair? Its a shitty 5 dollar piece of fabric, it doesnt mean you are better
>>
>>18554071
and feminists love moozlim whores because most of them are not white and its like diversity and shit
and to be frank in the current year every foid is a turbo whore that walks around naked so muslims are technically in the right, except they still wear makeup and are whores
>>
>>18554082
Muslim feminists are worse than western feminists

>the struggle between Islamists and anti-Islamists is a very real thing in the Muslim world to the present day.
Seems like a very one-sided struggle. I can’t think of a single victory for the anti-Islamists outside of maybe the Algerian civil war
>>
>>18553710
it's still the case. "islamization" (radicalization) in countries like bangladesh and central asia is driven by saudi funded madrasas. others like the muslim brotherhood are qatari allies instead but afaik they're not that heavy on spreading salafism

In a way, Islamism is a reaction to religion losing its importance. A lot of people are religious of course and more religious there than in much of the world, or people stop going to mosques (although more people do stop going), it's more religion becoming less of *the* organizing principle for the entire social order. The basic idea behind Islamism is that the state and law should be governed by sharia, and then you have a highly concentrated version of it with militant Salafi jihadists.

Arab countries are more bipolar about this than people think. Nasser himself was enamored with Western popular culture, and if you watch Egyptian movies from the 1950s, it's not that different from Bollywood from the 1950s. Egypt also had a bunch of "Islamist-like" people, they were just poor rural farmers, and then a lot of those people moved to cities and had grievances and became the base for the Ikhawnists. There's a lot of people still like that but you also have the Bum Bum song:

>>18554121
Given that religion has become of utmost importance in the Muslim world once more it’s safe to say the Islamists won. I don’t see Islamic law ceding power to anything else.

Woman in Ottoman Empire dressed the same.
