A centuries behind, backwards agricultural state forcibly dragged into industrial modernity, bloodied by the most intense genocidal war in human history, was supposed to be an equal counterweight to an invincible, untouched thanks to oceans, essentially monocultural superpower, with the majority of the world's industrial capacity and economic power within its territory?Socialism in one country had long won as policy by that point. The USSR was content to sit on its yard, it was the Americans that pushed for "containment" and forcing the Soviets to try to match them on military might and interventionism to the best of their abilities, but by material conditions alone, it wouldn't be possible.
