Was the idea of Satan being a fallen angel who leads all the other demons in rebellion a later invention? I haven't read the bible past genesis so I don't know anything.

satan isn't a fallen angel, but people use words like satan and devil all the time these days without having any clue what those things really are

Satan or śāṭān (שָׂטָן), literally translates to "adversary" or "accuser". It is used as such in the bible to refer to angels subordinated to Yahweh (God) who do his bidding when it comes to prosecuting the nation of Judah in the heavenly court and testing the loyalty of Yahweh's followers. It was also used by prophets to refer to adversaries of Yahweh.

The "fall from heaven" story originates from the morning star in Canaanite mythology, which was personified as a god who attempted to occupy the throne of Ba'al. He descended and ruled the underworld after failing to do so. Though the original version of the myth may instead have involved the god Helel attempting to overthrow the high god El, who was believed to dwell on a mountain in the north. Helel also wished to ascend higher than all the other divinities but he was forced to descend as well. It is interpreted as a mythological representation of the morning star's motion in the sky, as in, it rises in an attempt to reach the highest point but is ultimately outshone and disappears when the sun rises.
