I am reading pulp magazines of the 20th century and one thing i've noticed the writers had a grudge against black people. blacks were depicted as villains that try to kill whites, or try to rape white women, and are hideous looking in facial features. Or they are shown as being subservient to white people in a very power fantasy way. How did black readers at the time feel about this? How come we don't see them criticize this?

I like when they put their racism aside and have the hero befriend some ultra stereotypical morally gray goofy minority guy, they're always the best characters in those stories. Solomon Kane was oddly sympathetic towards black people(relatively) considering how Howard depicted them in his other stories.
