Slaves were simply used as a means of mass production in this type of slavery. They were completely stripped off their humanity, and were treated as mere tools. Slaves in America were used to produce agricultural products en masse.The difference between chattel slavery and other forms of slavery is that other systems were not designed to strip the humanity of the unfortunate in a such absolute and devastating manner. Sure, slaves performed tasks for their masters everywhere. But they were treated as the lowest of humans, not complete animals (bucks) or tools.Despite its barbaric, primitive practices, even the Arab slave trade had a method of ensuring that the slaves are treated as humanely as possible. Slaves can be freed (became Mawlas) and may even gain a much priviledged social status.Other slave systems are even better. In Africa, slaves are war captives who may be employed in various tasks. They can even be leaders in war, and marry within the community that they are enslaved in.So, slavery in America is much worse compared to slavery in other places and eras as it completely stripped of slaves from humanity, and made them tools of mass production. Nowhere has such a cold, devastating and exploitative system which had total disregard for humanity had existed in history.

It is a form of slavery where a certain group of racialized people are completely stripped of humanity at an institutional basis so that a society's economic benefits can be systematically maintained. Slavery is both the effect and cause of ideological Racism, and racism is a central theme of Western civilization.This little girl, her sons, her grandsons etc…., even being free men for several generations, were still dehumanized slaves. They were victims of an extremely narcissistic society which worshipped racism.

It is a strange thing, but if we look at ancient Rome, for instance, the Romans were undoubtedly just as brutal; they even went so far as to torture people with physical deformities or disabilities for the sake of entertainment. Yet, they did not incorporate dislike of physical difference into the very structure of their slavery system. It was a system based purely on transaction, meaning that even a white Roman could be enslaved if captured. In a sense, one might argue that the degree of "evil" involved was lower in that regard.
