What common (or uncommon) myths or misconceptions trigger your 'tism particularly badly? For me it's become the entire early history of the AR-15. 90% of people buy into a history of it's existence thats entirely bullshit, not helped by the fact it became a central point in gun politics for both sides
What don't people understand about the Assault Rifle 15 (dead children) anon?I'm kidding, Armalites original workshop where Eugene Stoner first developed the AR-15 is actually about a 10 minute drive from my house in Costa Mesa, it's a car garage now. I wonder how many people even realize the AR-15 was invented in California given how notorious this state is with its gun laws
>>18566682IMR4475 a shitA shit i tell you
>>18566718Wasn't the ARs direct impingement system designed specifically for IMR4475 because pressure spiked later in the guns dwell time allowing for a smoother cyclic rate? IIRC early ARs suffered issues because they had to move away from it
>>18566678The meme that the nationalists lost the chinese civil war because they bore the brunt of the Japanese while the communists were biding their time, or because they US briefly stopped supplying them weapons during the Marshall peace mission immediately after ww2. No one who says this can ever explain how this could be true when 1946 was by far the best year for the nationalists militarily. They won decisive battles in central china, and were pushing them back everywhere else. The loss was due to strategic failures unrelated to ww2. The nationalists were in an overwhelmingly superior position at the start of the war, and failed due to their own corruption and incompetence.
>>18566727>designed specifically for IMR4475 because pressure spiked laterKind of the opposite, IMR4475 spiked very rapidly and too high. The maximum allowable average chamber pressure was 52,000psi. Not only did 4475 exceed that in order to reach spec velocity, because of natural variances in volatility and powder load it was a guarantee that any given lot of ammo would have pressures even higher (+/- 10% is an oft cited variation). In 1964 the US tried to order 130 million rounds of .223 and every major ammo manufacturer went "lmao no".>early ARs suffered issues because they had to move away from itThe root issue was a shit buffer tube design, lack of reliable cleaning instructions and kits, and the lack of a chrome chamber making that worse. Even before those changes the change to WC846 brought a slight reduction in the worst stoppages, although it severely made bolt-bounce worse. That wasn't too bad of a problem since it only happened while firing full auto and just required a re-rack.
>>18566783and of course I forget my image
>>18566727This is probably the best summary available
Direct impingement is a brilliant and elegant design but I feel like the ARs buffer system was overengineered shit
>>18566834Isn't it literally just a tube with a weighted spring?
>>18566862Yes, and it's also unnecessary and adds complexity that doesn't need to be there. AKs don't have tubes with springs going into the buttstock
>>18566678Christopher Columbus was just a religious retard who enjoyed torturing Indians, he really isn't a heroic guy at all but people continue to want to celebrate him on columbus day
Is there some schizo conspiracy theory that denies the development of the AR-15 had to do with Vietnam and the failure of the M14?
>>18566896Strictly speaking it didn't, at least at first. The AR15 started in 1957 under the SCHV program, got good reviews from trials but at a time when the Army wasn't looking for a new gun. Then we sent some off to "advisors" in Vietnam, the Air Force bought a bunch since they were getting shafted on the M14 priority list, and by '63 when the M14 had shat the bed entirely the US bought 100,000 as a stopgap until the SPIW (pic related) program provided us with the Weapon of the Future(tm). Then that stopgap rifle became the universal standard once people realized SPIW was completely unworkable
More SPIW prototypes
>>18566771Where can I learn more about this? I'm a zoomer with the attention span of a retard, so preferably in the form of a youtube video.
For me it's every retard with a college education that doesn't know the difference between British genocidal colonialism and Spanish imperial conquest
>>18566771> the nationalists lost the chinese civil war because they bore the brunt of the Japanese while the communists were biding their timeThat's exactly what happened. The Nationalists were in a significantly better position before the Japanese invasion while the Communists were practically a skeleton crew. By the end of the war with Japan, the Nationalist economy was in complete shambles while the Communists had managed to spread their forces throughout the countryside and were heavily armed in large numbers. Bearing the brunt of the Japanese invasion did in fact prevent the Nationalists from destroying the Communists.
>>18566892Columbus Day is more about Italian heritage, not Columbus himself. Just like how St. Patrick's Day is about Irish heritage, not St. Patrick. Also the fact that our country wouldn't exist without his discovery. Regardless of how much of a dick he was, that is still very important.
>>18567198shouldn't you be on /sp/ favelaposting about the futbol, slumdog
>>18566892Ok Furio, pipe down.
>>18567210I understand the urge for Italian pride, especially given how Italians have historically been discriminated against, but can't you pick someone as a symbol who WASN'T a terrible person? There have been plenty of Italian-Americans who were alright.
>>18567084china century of revolution is a great documentary on the subject.
>>18567208>No one who says this can ever explain how this could be true when 1946 was by far the best year for the nationalists militarily. Including you apparently.

>>18566834How else is the bolt supposed to cycle?
>>18567380This does not explain why they were able to charge out the gate and maul the ccp in the first year of the war and only fell apart later.
>>18566892>think of the heckin poor Indios o algoSorry Paco....you aren't an Aztec warrior.
>>18568412NTA but I do happen to believe that wanton cruelty, rape, and mass murder is le bad.
>>18568327Because the CCP held the countryside. The KMT captured the cities but ended up getting surrounded and besieged in said cities and cut off, as they couldn't repel them from the countryside. Along with the hyperinflation caused by the war with Japan turning public opinion against the KMT, which they couldn't exactly solve while still in war.The fact remains that they lost primarily because they bore the brunt of the Japanese invasion, which give the CCP time to expand, gather heavy arms, and spread their forces, while KMT forces and economy got devastated by the Japanese.
>>18566834>Direct impingement is a brilliant and elegant designIt's a horribly retarded design. You don't shit where you eat.
>>18568561This. People who say it's brilliant have never had to clean out a dirty-ass AR

It’s an old as fuck and basic pet peeve, but I really hate how much people who get their WWII knowledge from popular culture fellate German tanks.I’m also not going to be the annoying guy who overcorrects too much in the other direction and starts calling all German designs shit, but it’s still so fucking tiresome to hear about it. Although I think that unconsciously adaptes wehrabooism is now a dying phenomenon anyways now that WWII is becoming a less commonly used setting for movies and games.
>all these fucking retards arguing about meheecansLet's talk about some actual misconceptions in history, like the idea that Italy was useless in WWII. It's true that their military campaign didn't amount to much, but their special ops people were top-notch, as shown by the raid on Alexandria; they did more against the British Navy in a night than Germany had done in 2 years. Their special ops guys were dramatically underutilized because most people back then didn't understand how important they were. Italy could literally have changed the outcome of the war if they had decided to send covert ops people to hit Panama Canal. If Italy had blown the gates at Panama in 1943 or so with a commando team, all those fancy-schmancy new carriers ameriwankers love to jack themselves off to suddenly have to go around South America to get to the Pacific theater, exposing them to German subs and giving Japan more time to establish their defenses. And if Japan had succeeded in taking out America's carriers, fuel tanks and repair bays at Pearl Harbor on top of that, America's entry into the Pacific theater would have been delayed by 3-4 years, and Japan would have every fucking island in the Pacific bristling with defenses by then, along with more pilots, planes and ships. All this for just a few commandos and maybe a single freighter full of bombs steered to exactly the right point in the canal. The Axis still wouldn't have been able to actually win, but Japan could have gotten a conditional surrender instead of being occupied and turned into an American colony. But sadly nobody appreciates Italy. They didn't then and they don't now, and because of that we live in globohomo tradcuck feminist shitworld. Wehraboos can whack it to daddy Hitler all they want, it's the pastas that the war really depended on.
>>18568887Posting again in an attempt to snipe quads, let me know how I did.
>>18568890Fuck. But I guess it's appropriate for something that could have changed the outcome of the war but didn't happen. On another timeline I made a post very similar to this talking about how fortunate it is that Italy did this because otherwise America would spread feminism to every country, but the combined might of sushi and lasagna saved the world, and that post got quads. And everyone clapped.
