Despite loosing Alsace Lorraine and having to pay huge war debts, their economy still boomed, they became massive creditors for Russia and the Ottomans and the Balkans, and they remained the cultural hearthrob of the world throughout the Belle Epoque. It's a real success story of recovering from defeat.
