Elves would live long,so they would reproduce slowly, they would enslave humans nearby for slave labour, menial labour, you get it. They will be the upper caste of society and as that society progresses, the amount of humans would increase faster than the elves and the elves will eventually be overthrown or run away and repeat the process until they can't hide anywhere else.
