Jesus spoke Galilean Aramaic. Therefore, if the Gospels were written in Greek, they cannot be the original words of Jesus. They are translations, and translation inherently introduces corruption and unreliability

If your book is divinely-inspired, give me the book in the language Jesus spoke. You cannot build a religion on a translation.

Greek in the near east was a common language at the time because of the Seleucid dynasty and hellenism. Every educated person in the region would have spoken Greek. There is no evidence that the gospels are a translation, they were merely written in Greek because it would have better circulation among people who could actually read.

So you think that not only Jesus, but the random people in the crowds he was speaking to spoke greek? Or did you not understand the OP post and think he was saying the Gospels are translations from Aramaic gospels?

1. Jesus would have spoken often in Greek as every time He would have spoken to the Romans, who would speak Greek and nothing else 2. The evangelists were filled with the Holy Spirit, and could not err in any way, including a translational error.

Almost certainly the majority of Jews would have spoken Greek, as would have been very beneficial to them under the Roman occupation. The legionaries had a right to order them to carry their pack for a mile, and if they refused they suffered harsh punishment. They needed to know what they were saying.

yeah, the illiterate crowds and fishermen disciples following jesus definitely were comfortable speaking greek. you may be retarded

I have to side with jews here their religion was co-opted by slave moralists translating Hebrew into Greek and distributing it to gentile

IF Jesus was god walking the earth don’t you think he could speak any language he wanted? Don’t you think he’d know his message would got lost in translation. I’m not a Christian but god incarnate would know

Literally a Muslim argument but okay

Most of the Quran is Greek crappily translated to Arabic.

Ye. Every branch understands that except for some ameri prots. Translations are fine. Updating translations is also fine.

Reality proves you different.

Yes. A lot of them were comfortable with greek, yes, even the most rural country bumpkin would speak it because he'd need it to go to the market to trade his fish or grain or whatever.

In fact ossuary inscriptions from Jerusalem have a substantial fraction in Greek, sometimes bilingual with Hebrew/Aramaic. Legal documents from the Judean desert are in Greek, Aramaic, and Nabatean. Septuagint existed. Etc.

No, they weren’t. Only colonizer elites spoke Greek, the populace exclusively spoke Aramaic and given that the gospel was originally said in Aramaic, the original Aramaic version is superior to any silly Greek translation

Love your neighbor as yourself.

Yes nobody ever bothered learning a second language in the history of mankind.

I reject this premise. Prove it.
>>
>>18578924
Not if it’s a colonizer tongue spoken by colonizer elites

The Romans wouldn't be speaking Greek outside of the elites.

>You cannot build a religion on a translation.
