We're now on Day #7 of my daily US states threads in honor of the 250th anniversary of the country.

Connecticut joined as the 5th state on 1/9/1788. It was one of the original 13 Colonies. The name Connecticut is a Mohegan-Pequot word meaning approximately "upon the long river", and refers to the river for which the state is named for. Its capital is Hartford, and its largest city is Bridgeport. It has a population of 3.7 million and is 5.5k square miles in size. One president (Dubya) is from this state. Much of its geography is comprised of forested rolling hills, river valleys, and of course the bay.
The first Europeans to arrive in Connecticut were the Dutch in 1614, building a fort at the future site of Hartford. The English would later come in 1633. The first attempt at making a colony, Saybrook, failed miserably. Puritans would later found Connecticut in 1639. The Fundamental Orders of Connecticut in 1639 have been described as the first constitution in America, and would influence the later Constitution of the USA.
The Pequot War was the first significant conflict with Native Americans and the English. Later during the Revolutionary War, the state became the site of several battles. In its early years the state was famous for its shipyards, regularly launching around a hundred vessels a year. The British blockade of American harbors would lead to the development of the clipper.
In the 20th century, industry in Connecticut shifted to firearms, such as Remington, Winchester, and Colt which were headquartered in the state. Later military companies would also HQ in Connecticut, and the state became a manufacturing powerhouse. In today's age the state has shifted to a strong focus on education, with institutions such as Yale comprising what is known as the Knowledge Corridor. The wealthy western part of the state is known as the Gold Coast, and the Coast Guard Academy is stationed here.

What do you think of the Constitution State?

Small irrelevant shithole.
>>
typical lower New England state that was once a Yankee WASP place long since overrun by Ellis Islanders
>>
>>18579230
It was the last New England state to use the death penalty and the only one in the modern era.
>>
lived there for a while, I liked the smallness. You could reasonably explore the entire state.
Also the Book Barn in Niantic is the best bookstore in the country.

^This.
>>
Peaceful, chill
Every Thanksgiving my whole family would congregate here to visit my aunt and uncle in their cabin up by Fairfield. I have memories of being in the back of my mom's car driving up and down the hilly roads while orange leaves litter the roads like a carpet. Just orange as far as the eye can see, from the road to the trees
I miss those days.
Cozy state, peaceful, good standard of living, not as crowded as Massachusetts
>>
Tomorrow's thread is an even smaller and more meaningless state although it's going to be a flame instigator due to its connection to recent presidents.

Connecticut:
The north is mainly woods and country people
The middle is mostly suburbs and city too
All the cities are shit holes btw.
You got the city of Bridgeport for example. Be very careful of waking around at night as a white person, you'll likely get mugged.
The panhandle is where all the wealthy rich people live, the people who work in NYC and shit.
The far eastern part of the state is like an extension of Rhode Island in many ways .
So yeah CT is a fucking shithole state, couched between NYC and Boston. CT is like the badlands in between these two great centers of civilization.
Taxes are high because its Dem run
The Dems get elected solely by the people in the cities. It seems like most people outside of the cities are conservative.

all the big cities were shitholes but some of the smaller ones are very nice (Cheshire, Wallingford, Lower Naugatuck Valley)

Southington, Bristol, Wolcott aren't bad either, they're clustered sorta near Hartford interestingly enough (Hartford is a shithole though). I hear New Britain is a shithole, but it was historically a very Polish city. Lots of Polish people live there. Lots of Portuguese and Brazilian people live around the valley too. Italians are ubiquitous in the state. You still have your WASPS though, but I think they're beginning to get smaller. The cities are packed, fucking PACKED, with minorities. Actually whites are the Most of the Hispanic people in CT are Puerto Ricans.

New Britain's mid-tier.
Hartford proper is a shithole but West Hartford is bougie as hell

they gerrymandered it so Hartford has sole control over elections in the state
