If Buddhism is about letting go, then why do they attach themselves to a label like religion?
Buddhism is a godless religion, like marxism. Thus they can see some of the light but their optic is blurry and their path goes wayward like an animal without guide. The ones who follow God and have his word tied around their neck and his name on his arm are like ants, who know what to do without anyone being on top of them telling them what to do, for God himself told them. Whoever puts his faith in men will be like a blind man following a blind man, whoever puts his faith in God and lets him direct his life is like a sun that illuminates and brings daylight wherever he goes.

>>18582054Lol? Buddhists live in monasteries their whole life, without influencing the world in any way. Thats like being given the key of the jail that locks up the whole world and saying "nah, they did something so they need to learn their lesson" even though you know the whole system is wrong and theres nothing to learn from it.
>>18582055Sorry Retard, I didn't realize metaphors were beyond you; I'll say it again in plain English. The closest you have to casteist monks is one of the two monk orders in Sri Lanka (the Siam Nikaya), and even then, the other order (the Amarapura-Ramanna Nikaya) is open to all.Buddhist monks aren't religiously forbidden from eating meat either. They have to eat whatever they're given as part of their religious practice.>Are you surprised that someone who doesnt follow the most basic tenant participates in politics? >>18585285What do I need to do to get in?
>>18585163Okay, maybe I came off strong, I should've provided context.Just a summary, the roots of the original doctrines of Buddhism itself came from India, but then Theravada Buddhism specifically, the oldest and still surviving school of Buddhism took root in Sri Lanka and was then adopted by Burma, it was over the centuries purified by Burmese kings and imposed on all ethnic groups by the Burman group, this then led to empires like the Taungoo and Konbaung that colonized parts of modern-day Manipur, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Burmese colonalism is largely why parts of SEA identify as Theravada Buddhist. But here's the difference, unlike Burma who maintained a state-basis relationship with Sri Lanka all other Buddhist nations completely diverged, muddying and corrupting the original doctrines of Thervāda Buddhism with their own ideals over time. his is why Buddhism had become tools of hierachy instead in every existing Buddhist nation like that of the regions of Indo-China for muddying it with their own ideals when the Burmese kings enforced it deliberately because he knew they were deliberately unable to maintain it's purity. Other religions do not pretend to be Buddhism, why should we let corrupt versions of Buddhism even be called Buddhism? There is no logical coherence. What point is there when the liberation the Buddha talked of to help people think is misused for remaking Buddhism itself in the name of materialist ideals? The people that follow these distinct schools are inclined to do so because it follows their lineage not because it is right. The will of the Burmese had been passed from the Sri Lankas and we have kept it by the book, nobody else has because they know if they did the power of the elites would come crashing down. (Pic is of Burmese Taungoo empire)
>>18585247Westerner thinking in materialist terms. Typical.
>>18585972Just letting people know I'm the same anon as the one I'm replying to:Even Christianity the foundation of which all secularism and modern contemporary Western ideas are based off support the theological superiority of Buddhism, being due to the inherent claim that man was built in the image of God proves that the very existence of other religions besides Christianity is inherent proof of divinity amongst all peoples. And that thus, Christianity is compatible with every form of religion in existence as it inherently proves the claim. If everything is going to accordance to God's plan, and yet God gave humans free will, that would logically mean everything humans do is God's plan. The end goal of all Theravada Buddhists, is to become Gods, then surpass being Gods at all. And that is exactly what Christian scriptures and theology have prophesised.
>>18585994Is it a Easterner thing to engage in pointless tasks?
>>18586012No westerner, it's a Burmese thing to actually care more about how you live your life instead of being a mindless drone that consumes mush and faps to anime girls all day.
>>18586018Isn't your country currently engaged in a civil war?
>>18586012And fyi putting aside insults, the West has always inherently had a dislike of Materialism. That's literally what produced the philosophical grounding behind Fascism in the first place. And it's only going to grow more and more until idealism replaces it. Don't even know your own history, but I guess I'm Burmese so that makes it pointless by your logic. Actually, is it logic or is it just you in specific being an idiot? Actual Idealism - Giovanni Gentilehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDtIn2uFqxs

>>18586048And just to seriously engage with your mutt of a question, it's a true revolution with global implications. Centralization or federalization? Top-down or bottom-up? Diversity or Unitary? Capitalism or Communism. Out of the ashes of this, a phoenix will rise. This is how I see your "great" French revolution:And now France, the supposed original exporter and model of the republic, that has gained up over 10+ instances of mass social unrest in all it's existence. In all honesty, for all the French revolution, all it really did was allow for the formations of the dictatorial parliamentary model through the Jacobins that used meritocracy as a means of assimilating anybody that aligned with their ideals. Was it really even a revolution when the only thing the French revolution produced was a hypocritical charter of a republic built on the classes of Frenchmen that were systematically privileged on the backs of continents? it cannot really a republic if it's solely built on systematic exploitation, but I instead propose the French revolution was really the attempted consolidation of a new class of elite one that gained power through ruthless technocracy and management.
>>18586059I'm a layman I'm not held by the same rules, and yes you just made yourself look like an idiot AGAIN.Also never said "How dare you" that's a strawman. >>18585972What if I think the "corruption" of Buddhism by Chan and its lineages is actually an improvement on Lord Gautama's teachings?
>>18586137Define improvement? Yeah, none.
>>18586137LIKE COME ON, YOU CANT SERIOUSLY THINK MAHAYANA BUDDHISM THAT LITERALLY HAS A STUPID AS IDEA AS "Yeah I'm a Buddha the entire time" IS AN IMPROVEMENT LIKE COME ON, THATS JUST WORDPLAY.
>>18586137To define the entire branch of Maharyana Buddhism is to be is that it's ENTIRELY a smokescreen. It's based off what you "feel" and "do". The sounds you hear. Theravada Buddhism at it's core is radical individualism that is then sublimated to serve the collective. Every other branch of Buddhism eliminates that essential apparatus.
>>18585972Based. For the record, most of the surviving lineages of Indian Buddhism are still Theravada, with regular contact with Burma or Sri Lanka. The only difference is strands of Tibetan Buddhism transmitted mostly due to the Dalai Lama taking refuge in India. As someone who has visited India, Buddhism is mostly seen in its Theravada form in India as a less devotional, more meditation-centered and Buddha-centered path. Indians don't see any meaningful difference between Tibetan Mahayana and Vajrayana forms of Buddhism and the local Hinduism outside of theory.
>>18586169Oh thank you! ^_^Yes I'm aware. There's tons and tons of stories I've heard of in some papers I've read on how this one king in Burma was essentially "blessed" in a sense and converted to Buddhism by the Buddha himself which was the mythological beginning of Burma in Buddhism. And yes! I'm also aware of the Hinduist elements of Buddhism we even share a lot of cultural animals like the galon and such. I'm pretty sure we had a Burmese scholar that had like an entire tour of India visiting the various sites in India like Gaya, Buddha Gaya, Baneres etc. And in regards to Indians not seeing any meaningful distinction, it's often the same on the Theravada Buddhist perspective, it's often why it was imposed to essentially "bring order" to the various forms of Buddhism dotted about initially.
>>18586149By improvement I mean teachings that will bring more people to enlightenment.>>18586153I don't think enlightenment is an external thing that someone can find or be given. So either everyone is a Buddha-to-be or you're an elitist and I think elitism is counterproductive to enlightenment.Theravada Buddhism literally maintains itself by having free Sanghas spread about. Burma literally had free schooling for all boys since the 11th century because of this. Read a book. It was so advanced in fact learning method known as the "Su Ci Pu Ba admonitions":These 8 learning words from Burma are the abbreviation of 8 words derived from Pali:[2] Su - meaning Listening/Taking Knowledge Ci - Reflective Thinking/Critical Thinking Pu - Asking Questions/Problem solving Ba - Discussion/Communicative Vi - Investigative/Analytical thinking and Synthesis thinking Li - Taking Notes/Taking Information Si - Practise/Taking for Skill Da - Learning by Heart/Retaining of more Lasting knowledgeThe aim of this framework was to allow for the various processes so as "the learner acquires not only an acquaintance with knowledge but also the disposition to think about them critically, dialectically and analytically". Thus placing great emphasis on the learner, not the teacher.https://zenodo.org/records/3554766/files/5-Philosophy.pdf >I do think certain branches of Mahayana leave much to desire but I'm specifically talking about Chan and the forms of Buddhism derived from it.The foundations are rotten, there is no logical coherence.
>>18586205You seem awfully focused on learning which I find odd. The Buddha didn't enlighten himself by studying at the library for 49 days. He did it by meditating. While knowledge can be useful for practice at the end of the day you can't intellectually logic yourself into nibbana.
>>18586227Yeah, learning. Learning theology so you can understand the Buddha's teachings. Reciting verses so you don't forget and you can remind yourself. Having a ritual routine where you learn and debate on ethics so you know what you believe in. Second, I do care a lot, I literally read papers on papers tracing this. I even forayed into Christianity to better understand Buddhism's role in relation to Buddhism. Third, Theravada Buddhism for all it's history has never been untied to ethnic identities yes anybody can be a Theravada Buddhist but don't pretend like the West didn't steal, commercialize and export it to take away the role of the Sangha. And in regards to being a nationalist from an underdeveloped shithole? None of these are lies, these are literally are true, that's not nationalism.
