When theorizing about what would have happened if the French had more of America, many suggest it would all have been like Haiti, with black slaves everywhere and only black slaves, as if the French had a propensity for slavery and the importation of blacks.Why do people think that? The plantation colonies of the French in the Caribbean and the Guyanas mirrored that of the Spanish, Portuguese, English and Dutch. And importing black workers in lower Louisiana was something the English also did in the area. I find the stereotype particularly strange considering that there was actually a French America, in Acadia and Canada, and they did not have slaves. And in my opinion, these areas were far more uniquely French than the nth Caribbean plantation colonies that were Haiti or Guadeloupe or Martinique. I don't see how these were particularly French, and why the French doing what everyone else did in the region is somehow something only they could have done, or that it defined entirely their tendencies in colonisation.
