What idiot decided to represent the "ch" sound with the letter 'Q'?
>>
because you have to differentiate the ch and q sounds
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzQah5hOJtE
>>
>>18586868
It isnt a ch sound at all you retard. The sound doesn't exist in English. Maybe learn phonetics
>>
>>18586868
Chinese just isn't a good language, it's insistence on being tonal makes it difficult to understand sometimes even for native speakers. What's even more depressing is that it didn't use to be tonal but over time suffixes were dropped from their lexicon in favor of this weird phonetic shorthand instead. It would kind of be like if English Clippings (the colloquial shortening of words , ie. apps for "applications" or Biz for "Business" etc) became THE STANDARD way to say them but in Chinese it's almost worse.
>>
>>18586912
They should adopt English honestly. This clinging on to their backwards click clack language is a disgrace.
>>
Been thoroughly KWAB'd from Mandarin. The tonal nature, single syllable vocabulary, and homophones make listening comprehension impossible.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZiL6bDFANY
Literally no idea how anyone learns this shit, then you factor in that this is 100% clear and perfectly enunciated Mandarin, and that 90% of the country speak anywhere from a garbled mess only vaguely resembling this to a completely different language masquerading as a "dialect" for geopolitical LARP reasons.
>>
>>18586902
>learn
do you know where you are?
>>
>>18586921
10 years ago the people werent averae to learning and would learn about european or chinese history to shit on a group or to be more racist accurately. You would have had pro habsburgs Americans and pro KMT germans
>>
>>18586912
lol imagine uptalk and vocal fry becoming distinguishing in english
>>
Like others have said, it's not the "ch" sound. However, there is an actually valid critique of the romanization of mandarin, and that's the usage of "zh" for the "j" sound. That one is actually identical, and whoever thought it should be "zh" is fucking retarded.
>>
Pinyin is easier to read but being really, Wades-Giles preserve sound differences in Chinese better for English speakers if you know that the apostrophe signifies aspiration (t is unaspirated, pronounced t in "stop" vs aspirated t' as in top)
>>
>>18586902
>The sound doesn't exist in English.
Then you would use the closest approximation. Which isn't fucking q.
>>
>>18587024
This happened in North Germanic languages. Since Germanic languages trend towards analytic grammar there is a real danger of them becoming excessively Chinese-like
>>
>>18586913
They don't need to. The West is already becoming irrelevant.

Sorry it's lower than the opening price and China landed a reusable rocket and will land another one end of month
It's sensible to bring up China leads in AI since Chinese language is quite efficient for LLMs. You're the only one bringing in unrelated things like spaceX IPO.
>>
>>18588293
>Anon says Chinese shouldnt cling on to backwards language
Whatever language used by the people releasing the most capable open AI models isn't backwards. If you want a backwards language try Japanese or Russian.
>>
>>18588304
We were talking about how bad Chinese is as a spoken language (it is)
>>
Why do Third Worldists champion AI so much anyways? It's a massive waste of resources that everyone is actively speculating is going to fail. Seems like a weird hill to die on

Wow, it only took 11 years but you finally caught up with the US, we're so proud of you

That's....not how LLMs work....

I'm sorry to inform you whatever language is spoken by people who increasingly command frontier technologies isn't going out of fashion regardless of how you rate it

I'm not even the one who made the original comment but it really seems like he struck a nerve. Chinese is a bad language by the way

>Why do Third Worldists champion AI so much anyways? It's a massive waste of resources that everyone is actively speculating is going to fail.
The USA spends more on AI than all other countries combined. Are you saying that 1) the USA is third world, and 2) you know better than the US govt, US military, and all businesses, investors and researchers around the world?
>>
>>18588316
No, I'm saying third worldists have an unusual affinity for AI, the average American is actually quite skeptical of AI, and according to various surveys the countries with the highest acceptance of AI are places like India.
>>
>>18588315
>Chinese is a bad language by the way
AI researchers (who are more important than you and make you seethe) will keep using it, and this might make you upset

You mean the average leftist American. The trump administration is going all in, as are people with money e.g. investors and private equity.
The average European is even more skeptical of AI and that's why Europe is being left behind.

But you said the US spends the most on AI research....you're contradicting yourself there Chang, you also still seem to be confused about the difference between written and spoken languages, also you don't seem to understand how LLMs tokenize language on a fundamental level which makes whatever language it's using largely irrelevant. You are a shockingly stupid person
>>
>>18588321
>you're contradicting yourself there
The two countries leading AI research by far ahead of everyone else are the United States and China. There's no contradiction here, just you seething.
>>
>>18588323
That's a big hill to die on, did you need DeepSeek help writing this post?
>>
>>18588325
What hill? You're the one trying to convince the Chinese (who lead in many frontier technologies now) to change their language because you (a seething luddite) thinks they are backwards. I'm just pointing out how laughable that is.
>>
>>18588326
So did you need DeepSeek's help writing these posts? Why are you avoiding answering the question anon?
>>
>>18586868
What good is it by itself? It only works in english with U and even then you could just use Kw for all its words anyway. Qu is basically a DEI digraph to make Q feel included

Fun fact: The vast majority of Chinese didn't even speak Mandarin until the mid-20th century

I use AI to write more code in a day than I normally would have in a week. I use it to debug and fix issues. I use it to write design docs and ensure it covers blind spots I'm not an expert in.
I don't use AI to post on 4chan.
Do you think you have an argument?

>suffixes were dropped from their lexicon
What are you even talking about? Have you actually seen actual Classical Chinese (mid-first millennium BC)? Its words are almost exclusively monosyllabic. The difference is used a lot of consonant clusters and final consonants which got dropped over time which led to develoopment phonemic tones. It's the feature of the new Chinese languages to attach suffixes and compose disyllabic words.

>>18587419
I hate when languages contrast aspirated and unaspirated versions of the same consonant. More like aspergated. Who the fuck can hear that shit or pronounce it right?
