More like their facial ticks. I heard Romans, when they spoke, they gesticulated a lot. In very exaggerated ways. The ind of stuff that nobody really writes about except modern purple prose writers. But ancient writers didn't describe much about sutle mannerisms.If you could go back in time, and see it, would their mannerisms look very alien?

They had so many gesticulations, it could work as essentially sign language. They probably had to do that a lot when interacting with other peoples that didn't speak Latin.
