Why are Europeans so obsessed with every little tribe having their own country
pic is retarded, core china is about the size of the carolingian empire and the outer regions were only added under the manchu. the reason a full mediterranean empire never emerged again was never again did power again combine enough land and sea power. china never was forced to deal with sea stuff. that said the carolingians did fall from their own incompetence.
China had a language to unify them. Europe didn't. In China, a decree from the capital can be read and understood throughout the realm without a need for translations. The same cannot be said for Christian Europe.

>>18588744For most of its history China was a melting pot of hundreds of different ethnic groups that didn't even speak mutually intelligible languages. I'm really starting to get sick of Sino exceptionalists trying to convince the world they're some thousand year old continuous nation when in reality their history isn't actually all too different from Rome itself
>>18588840Provide evidence that isn't your hurt feelings.
>>18588860Come on now...Most of China didn't even speak Mandarin until the mid-late 20th century, this has nothing to do with feelings, it's pretty well known facts that for some reason we're just expected to ignore

>>18589140Yellow river farmed millet until somehow wheat and barley went from the fertile crescent all the way to China across the steppes and mountains, though it took the 2 crops 8000 years to do that.
>>18589121It could have gone differently. Chinese became this huge assimilationist blob through the power of rice farming. Some Austronesian tribes fortified themselves into the mountains of Luzon and avoided mixing with outsiders to the point they remain the least mixed East Asian group on the planet (https://pnas.org/doi/full/10.1073/pnas.2026132118) through the power of rice farming.

>>18588949I didn't realize every European village tried to prep their kids to take the official imperial European exam in Paris in Latin in hopes they become an official and get assigned to some imperial European province like Germany.
>>18588888>Chinese language is a written language, not a spoken oneClassical Chinese (official language of administration and education up until early 20th century), modern Putonghua and other modern Chinese languages like Cantonese employ these characters differently, sometimes even using characters unique to this or that language.E.g. here's an excerpt from Confucius' analects in pic related. On top you can see the original text in Classical Chinese written in simplified characters, and on bottom you can see the translation into Putonghua ('Mandarin'). Does it look very similar to you?Not to mention Classical Chinese has been an exclusively written language for thousands of year since original pronunciation of the characters has been lost. Meanwhile Latin, due to employing an alphabetic script, maintains the oral communication aspect making it a better sermon and negotiation language.>>18589480>I didn't realize every European village tried to prep their kids to take the official imperial European exam in Paris in Latin in hopes they become an official and get assigned to some imperial European province like Germany. You'd be surprised to learn that there existed stipends for poor students, including peasants, which did in fact allow to enroll in the university, and later on become a scribe, doctor, pastor, jurist or other professional.
>>18589525>You'd be surprised to learn that there existed stipends for poor students, including peasants, which did in fact allow to enroll in the university, and later on become a scribe, doctor, pastor, jurist or other professional.Yeah not for a united European government retard

>>18588744Consequences of the Thirty Years War.France realized it could acquire hegemony by divying up the HRE into warring states. Later on this was adopted by Wilson as America's core strategy for divide-and-control rule of the European continent.'Self determination' is code for Franco-American hegemony
>>18589540>Yeah not for a united European government retardNo shit Europe didn't have a united polity after the fall of the Roman Empire in the west. Why are you so fixated on it? A single language and a more-or-less uniform education system still allowed for mobility and travel of learned people between countries (Church being the most obvious conductor of such movements). It's not dissimilar to the Warring States period when 士 used to move and change employ in different courts during the Warring States period.I would say that the dynamic nature of the European political landscape with large empires and smaller buffer states and free cities allowed for military and scientific progress while China hopelessly stagnated and went through the cyclic motions.
>>18589626>I would say that the dynamic nature of the European political landscape with large empires and smaller buffer states and free cities allowed for military and scientific progress while China hopelessly stagnated and went through the cyclic motions.Maybe but this is orthogonal to your original argument which you already gave upAnd a united nationalistic China outperforms the bureaucratic sclerotic headless EU today if you want to argue long term competitiveness
>>18589560But not part of core China.>AlwaysThe Tang took the Tarim basin from a Turkic Khaganate, and had a slap fight with Tibet over it for the next 400 years until the Turks took it back. Wouldn't be Chinese again until the Qing conquered the Turks living there. I don't know shit about the Gansu corridor though so I won't argue there.I won't try to pass off that Chinese roots run deep in the North West, but it was more of a sphere of influence thing most of the time. It wasn't part of core China any more than Vietnam. Actually I think you can make a stronger argument for Vietnam, but that's neither here nor there.
>>18589856>I won't try to pass off that Chinese roots run deep in the North WestI won't try to say that the Chinese don't have deep roots in the North West*
>>18588744lack of religious beliefs (no higher ideals that are competing with that conceptions)historical emphasis on the nation state ethnic nationalism and pseudoscientific racialism of the 18th century
>>18589862>lack of religious beliefs (no higher ideals that are competing with that conceptions)They had the Mandate of Heaven which basically means the state WAS their religion
>>18589856You are forgetting the Han dynasty already expanded and controlled that region centuries before the Tang and their fortress ruins can still be found there. It's a frontier region of China and has been conquered and reconquered by Chinese armies more than any other region, by Qianlong's campaigns, by the famous General Tso, by the red army's Wang zhen.
