To my Baptist brethren: Today I saved another lost soul. A white man, by the way. He called upon the name of the Lord and put his trust in the finished work of Jesus for his salvation. He had almost all of the pieces already. I just needed to expound on eternal security a bit and that brought it all together for him. I think there are two interesting lessons to take from this. 1. Planting seeds matters. When you give a thorough gospel presentation, even if you don't get someone saved right then and there, you're imparting the pieces that person can draw from to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ when another soulwinner comes into their life. 2. I've noticed that a lot of people who are receptive to the gospel have a big sticking point on the idea of eternal security. It is hard for them to square their righteous sense of justice with salvation even for murderers who believe. That's why the two doctrines of chastisement and reprobation are so important to know, so that you can draw on them to show that our actions still matter even once heaven is guaranteed, and that the truly abominable are already past salvation.
