Hitler then tried to destroy the British at Dunkirk with the Luftwaffe and sunk several ships and killed thousands who were trying to evacuate, but the Luftwaffe sucked, so it was ineffective. Hitler then resumed advancing and tried to crush the British, but the French held the line and allowed the British to escape. That is what actually happened at Dunkirk, Hitler was not being merciful. Hitler could have been the most cruel, sadistic, immoral, ruthless bastard ever and Germany still would have lost.
