Be honest, /his/faggot, if it wasn't about slavery you would back the Confederacy.

Aesthetically the antebellum Southern aristocrat is very pleasing, no denying it. The fact that this lifestyle was sustained entirely by slavery made it impossible to support.
>>
>>18589942
Every single one of you back then would've supported Shays' Rebellion, the Whiskey Rebellion, and others but just because this was about slavery mostly, you all shy away from the thought of going against tyrannical government.

Never

>you would have supported farmers not wanting to pay excessive taxation
>you would have supported commoners protesting excessive federal taxation
>so why won't you support rich landowners right to hold hundreds of people as slaves and whip them when they get out of line?
im not sure how you think these things relate in any way to each other
>>
>>18589966
>defends the Union's injustices because negro slave issue outweighs anything else

lmao
>>
>>18589976
class issue, actually
defending workers, commoners, farmers = good
defending feckless lazy parasitic scum = bad
>>
>>18589979
Oh I see, what about the government, its lobbyists, its financiers, and its general accountability? What about that, huh? What if they're corrupt and lazy, and whipping us around? Yeeeeah now the Union doesn't look so good does it.
>>
>>18589983
No? It never did, it's just the Confederacy looked even worse.
>>

The yanks knew it wasn't about slavery. The ones that still get uppity about the South are trying to signal that they play for a winning team. Most of the people doing that aren't even Americans at this point. Alot of foreigners try to carve their niche by aligning with the positions that facilitate their participation in Western society.

The slavery narrative, while disingenuous, is a mark of modern America's victory and power to influence people's perception of reality. Most people wouldn't hearken to the Southern cause knowing it comes with nothing but social disadvantages.
>>
>>18589929
Of course. Wiping out their way of life is no excuse for a war of conquest and colonization of the South literally aimed at erasing their distinctive way of life ie genocide. Do not do to others how you wouldn't like being treated. The states were supposed to be at their own discretion to secede just as the 13 colonies seceded from Britain. Once wining the war the Union should have imposed reparations but let the South be. Its anexation, not later wars against wetbacks in the continent and overseas never mind sandniggers today is the real descent of the american project into a generic empire of the thousands others that litter the world.

Ahhh now I see, so we don't care, ultimately, about the complete logic and soundness of it all we only care about morality and appearance, especially when it suits a narrative, gotcha.
>>
>It looked worse

Lmao, goddamn

Is this really the sum of the argument?

Can't believe you said that, Anon.

This. Growing up in the souths is very surreal. Much of the area is poor and filled with these redneck trailer trash and ghetto blacks roaming around, but you have these gorgeous mansions littered about, some in great condition and others in ruin. Must have been what Cola di Rienze felt living in the ruins of Rome. There is a beauty and elegance to it that was killed off when the planter class faded away.
