How accurate are the costumes for the Persian army in 300? Were Persians already towelheads when they invaded Europe, or is this just post-9/11 Muslim = bad propaganda?

Other than that it's just a shield (borderline compulsory for most types of warrior at the time) and an assortment of contemporary weapons. Are you also bewildered by self supplied, non-professional hoplites managing to put together phalanxes?
