Was it unreasonable for Finland to completely reject Russian negotiations over Karelia?I didnt realise until now that the Soviet ambition in terms of territory was essentially to reverse the Russian borders as they had been since the Treaty of Nystad in the early 1700. Finland brought that area with them when they broke away from the Russian Empire in 1917, albeit since it was populated by Finns.>Inb4 commie sympathiser I am not. I merely found the topic intruiging since it's never discussed. We constantly see threads here blaming Poland for ww2 because they didnt do enough to negotiate and avoid conflict, so we might as well have a go at this similar situation. Now obviously with hindsight we also know that the Soviets had plans to install the Terijoki Government in Finland, but the people at the time did not.
>>18601234Just look at what happened to the Baltics. It's a harsh world
>>18601241>what happened to the balticsA coup by locals against their bourgeoisie dictatorships?
>>18601250Lmao
>>18601253Did the Bourgeoisie also give your Babushka HiV?
No one wants communism
>>18601241I am Latvian, My great - grandmother was raped and her 4 sisters raped and killed in a gruesome way by Red Army soldats. I see jews and anons sympathising with communism and russian militarism every day on 4chane here. It is Surreal. Some people need to be reminded about the nature of life every century because they fall for the simplest tricks very easily... or worse, are te tricksters themselves.
>>18601444>Five civilians get raped in the most destructive war against human history (the communists were defending there btw)>Therefore all of humanity must be slaves to the bourgeoisie for the rest of eternity (this system btw rapes way more people)
>>18601264>>18601514Watch out, Dmitry. A drone is hovering over your trench
>>18601234It's been a while since I've looked into it, but weren't the original demands a lot more hawkish?
>>18601681No, the original demands were smaller and Finland was going to get some land in exchange in the east>>18601444>I'm Latv-ACK!Sorry, Hitler lost
>>18601234No. It was fairly probable the USSR would have used its treaty gains as a launchpad to invade them like they did in the Baltic states a few months after. Acquiesing to their demands would mean the Soviets get to circumvent Finland's defensive emplacements on the isthmus.>>18601444A temporally embarassed member of the 15th Waffen Grenadier Division speaks his mind.
>>18601667Why does that make you want to be the property of Blackrock?
>>18601754>brings up Hitler unpromptedGo be a jew elsewhere
>>18601234what Finland should have done is assault St. Petersburg in 1919 with Estonian and British support
>>18601234assuming you are speaking in good faith1. Molotov-Ribbentrop pact basically was about giving Finland to Soviets, the state got shortly independent from Russia so they were hawking it2. The same deals were made to Baltic countries and the end result was invasion so the the Finnish government figured out that it was not worth itas for the trade itself. It was not worth it. They got more land but it was some forest vs losing major cities.
>>18602851>assuming you are speaking in good faithThis is in good faith. I know there will be suspicion that I am a tankie, but I generally just enjoy pushing the typical 'case-closed' topics as far as I am reasonably able.>Molotov-Ribbentrop pact basically was about giving Finland to SovietsWasnt M-R pact more about sphere of influence? Because thats a huge difference. Finland pretty much submitted to Soviet sphere of influence (basically approving all of their actions, a policy we today refer to as "finlandization") during the Cold War as a survival strategy to avoid another potential conflict.>The same deals were made to Baltic countries and the end result was invasionWrong, these states were not invaded. They merely complied with demands which were seemingly modest in 1939. They werent annexed until late 1940, long after the Winter War had been concluded, so the argument of hindsight cant be a guiding factor here.Regardless, the Finns were presented with completely different demands than the Baltic states; the Finns were given actual negotiations to revise the borders based on historical borders of the Russian empire from the Treaty of Nystad after Russias victory in the Great Northern War (the war that solidified Russia as one of Europes great powers). The point here is that can at least some arguments of criticism be applied to the Finns for completely rejecting Russian negotiations which ultimately led to war? Or is it completely illogical to do so?
>>18602879alright you are clearly not arguing in good faith
>>18602894Can you elaborate?
>>18602851>>18602894>Insists on being "good faith">Just outright lies about the Soviet demands including major cities
