Why don't more athiests love Jesus in the same way that a die-hard LOTR fan loves Frodo?

You don't have to believe that there is experience after death and we have souls in order to appreciate the story. I think I enjoy and have a deeper understanding of the New Testament than most proclaimed christians do. If you can set aside the great debate over the truth and realize this is the most read book that humans have ever wrote and its about what if there was a person who was God

Because there isn't anything respectable or admirable about Rabbi Yeshua. His ideology is harmful proto-liberal globohomo garbage and he had no achievements and is only known for being raped and crucified by Roman BVLLS. I have much more respect for Pontius Pilate than i do for the subversive jewish cuck known as rabbi Yeshua.

You can suspend disbelief and speak within the fantastical canon of LOTR with "Frodo saved the world" without the implication that you actually think Frodo was real and he saved the real world. But with Jesus you have to have this cold and analytical tone. Yes, the real Jesus was technically a criminal in Rome.

A non-Christian new testament appreciator, freed from the compulsion to believe that God wouldn't have allowed the authentic Christianity to be left behind in the first few centuries, should be able to recognize easily enough that the character repeatedly called "the son of God" probably isn't intended to also be God, and that the idea of him being "eternally begotten" is ad hoc, even setting aside all the other arguments and inconsistencies.
>>
>>18603334
I and the Father are one.
>>
>>18603334
Jesus isn't God, no, he's this supremely high spiritual entity with unfathomable knowledge and capability, higher than any soul, angel, demon, or anything other than god, He guides us towards God and is a vessel for God, but no he is not God. Ok got it Arias yeah this interpretation is much better and cleaner
>>
>>18603346
"As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." (John 17:20b-23)

"Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, “The two shall be one flesh.” But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him." (1 Corinthians 6:16-17)

>>18603353
The point isn't what's better and cleaner. The point is what actually fits the text, what the authors were most likely thinking.

"But about that day or hour no one knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father." (Mark 13:32)

Does it make sense to call Jesus God when he lacks omniscence?

I do agree that it's more convenient to think of God and Jesus as a corporate entity due to their close relationship instead of continually grouping together... like Paul does.

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Philippians 1:2)

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Ephesians 1:2)

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Galatians 1:3)

...
>>
>>18603211
They do not understand him. And do not care to. Very few people understood Christ. It is not surprising. Because Christ is the exception and the masses are not.

Yes. It makes sense to call "3.14", "pi", even though its only a finite representation of pi.

3.14 literally isn't pi though. It isn't even a finite representation of pi. It's a finite approximation of pi. A finite representation of pi would be a formula like picrel.
>>
>>18603370
You make no attempt to try to see it in the Nicene way, though. Jesus is entirely God and entirely human, concurrently. By becoming human, he accepted some of our limitations including mental ones, for as long as he was in that form. Jesus has to be omniscient but you are assuming things about the nature of how God "lived as a human". Why does Jesus make his followers walk miles when he can teleport them all to the location? Why does he go through any of the physical obstacles of his entire life? Your question reveals you have not truly considered the implications of what God becoming a human actually means. And if Jesus was God what the story means now. What the REAL Mark Matthew and John actually were thinking when they were writing is a dumb debate because we don't have any of the originals anyway. You can shove your KJV up your ass that came from the 1200s

He was not an agitator against Rome. His mission was for the Jews and he was very explicit in that. In fact, had he succeeded, the modern Jew would not exist. THIS is why he was killed.

The humanity of Jesus is like the partial sums of that Leibniz series (the first 5, 10, or 100 terms).
We can calculate them, understand them, and see they’re clearly heading somewhere.

The divine nature of Jesus is like the full infinite sum.
The actual pi.
We can’t compute it completely in finite time, but we know exactly where the series is trending.
>>
>>18603451
We can calculate pi, understand pi and clearly see what pi corresponds to. 2000 years of the best theologians' work btw.
>>
>>18603464
If we can calculate pi then what's the 1 quadrillionth digit?
>>
>>18603425
The "entirely God and entirely human" thing seems fairly ad hoc to me, much like "eternally begotten," unless you tolerate that no amount of limitation or separation from God's attributes would make something definitely less than fully God. Can fully God sin? Could a turtle clearly struggling to flip itself rightside up be fully God for all we know? Could you be fully God? Could I be fully God, even though I'm pretty sure I'm not? Seems like the description becomes pretty meaningless.

>You can shove your KJV up your ass that came from the 1200s
I'm not even quoting the KJV. I'm quoting the NRSV. In fact I'm a non-Christian like OP. My main interest is in making sense of the story.
>>
>>18603467

No, they max out at 100 trillion digits. We will never fully compute or calculate pi, because it is infinite. Infinite means it never ends by the way
>>

A lot of them do. Probably most of them actually. >>
>>18603211
Because coming to admire Jesus would basically mean taking steps to recognizing the truth of God itself. I can't categorically state "No Atheists have ever come to admire him", but most never get there because of their own rejection of the religion. You'd also have to discern what "admire" even means, because it could be "Eh, some things he did were pretty cool" without them fully ingratiating the full scope of who he is and what he was really saying.
>>
>>18603211

>>
>>18603522
The point was that Jesus openly lacks omniscience, which is generally to be considered an essential trait of God (1 John 3:20, "God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything"), not only that he "acts human."

And that's on top of the doctrine that Jesus is God not actually being that well supported by the book as whole. If the authors several times take pains to call Jesus "the son of God" and "the image of God" instead of just "God," and Paul insists on speaking about God, "the Father" together with "the Lord" Jesus Christ, maybe it's because they feel the need to make an important distinction there.

And if Jesus' response to accusations that he's making himself out to be God in John 10 is to bring up polytheism in Jewish scripture, maybe even where it seems to say he's God like in John 1:1, it should instead be read as saying he's "a god" or something like that, which is apparently a viable translation that fits better with Jesus' response.

the problem, as I see it, is in part due to the fact that so called "athiests" who are probably jews or muslims, do not argue against christianity, they argue instead against some strawman they have created, or been provided with, that bears no real resemblance to the thing they claim to be against
>>
>>18603554
perfect precognition became impossible at the fall due to the spirit taking form in the flesh, the fire which was stolen from the gods was never meant for man, but in the light it now endures until the end of creation

Christianity was created by jews who decided Jesus was the Messiah.
It is not a White European faith.
>>
>>18603554
People were probably starting to ask them, if Jesus is god, then who did he pray to and who ran the heavens/carried out the divine plan while he was on earth, the trinity answers that and explains these problems you have brought up. And to address the first point, John was describing God not proclaiming god would be like that in every form. They did not use the word "essential", you did
>>

Leave it to the seething nons to bring up White/European when nobody even brought it up. But since you did, notice how, the Pax Romana allowed people to peacefully travel the Mediterranean for the first time, and the levant no doubt was open to potential migration from Celts, germanics, italics, as has been recorded in history. After millennia of isolation/fueds with other middle easterners, its only when true blue eyed white people start getting involved with the Jews and suddenly this "Jesus" character pops up. He was obviously aryan. Only they have that kind of empathy anyway
>>
>>18603556
I wasn't saying you were basing it off twitter I just see a lot of people who will claim a personal experience based off of internet posts, and outside of college campuses I don't generally hear the word "colonizer" in real life. I was also not saying reddit was indicative of anything other than the attitude described in the post is the attitude I have seen like I said basically everywhere, both online and off.
It's entirely possible your experience has been different, I just think the OP's premise, that atheists don't like Jesus, doesn't bare out broadly.

The New testament is an anthology of loosely connected individual tales, if we are to treat it as a book.
