Good example of that was that A-H tried to get Ukrainian nationalists on their side so they've promised them parts of galicia that Poles thought of as theirs(they weren't and aren't despite of the current borders) which led to Poles effectively rebelling in the last days of A-H existence. Military, police etc toolK off insignia and was replacing them with eagles, taxes weren't going upstream etc. instead of sending 2-3 divisions and some Ukrainian militias to put them down they've allowed the rebellion to fester and other nations joined in.
